Classic British Flight Sim

Well I've just uploaded the pdf and then put the link onto Google Translate, doesn't work it's too big. Opened Acrobat, edited the pdf down to the bit that describes the startup, still too big. Copy & pasting doesn't work as the Cyrillic characters just come out as questions marks.

So it'll need someone who has a Cyrillic plugin on an older version of Word 2003 or earlier. I have Word 2007 and there's no plugin I can find but there is one for 2003.


I could always reply to one of the many Russian women who seem to be emailing me on a daily basis who's messages normally end up in my spam bin, perhaps they could translate it.

Well I'll be.. it started first time this time Peter.. throttle forward 20-30% and 6 pumps on the primer You can see how powerful the engine is.. I managed to take off with the tiedowns attached and the chocks in place!

I'll have another go tomorrow...BTW while I was gliding I discovered how to get rid of those chocks and things...Just push "L"

I remember using this a year or so back. To get it to start, you will have to change the starter torque to 0.3 instead of 0.2 in the aircraft.cfg for each of the different aircraft included in the package.

Yup.. I found that out later from the manual The An-2 is a very stable platform once you get it going although I have to say I'm not that happy not knowing what many of the switches do. Basically, it is in start mode as soon as it's loaded so in theory, all you have to do is move the throttle the required amount, pump the primer then hit the start. I flew it again after that flight (without the tie downs and chocks!) from GUE to JER and it started first time. Landed at JER.. parked up and cut the pwr. Tried starting again and it was a sod though it did start eventually

AD.. changing the starter torque would definitely make it easier to start and that's something I'd considered doing but leaving it as it is offers more of a challenge. If you saw that film link Garry posted, the real ones don't necessarily fire up first time Tks for the suggestion though

Saw the video in the link that Garry posted. Must be a hard beast to get started though. Also recall doing something about the throttle setting in the aircraft.cfg so it wouldn't cut out when engine finally started.

I've had types in the past where the engine cut when the throttle was closed instead of idling...was it something like that with you Jimm??

I used put the throttle to half for 20 seconds or so then I could bring it back to idle without the engine stopping.

I had this AN-2 model in FS9 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Probably the only flight sim aircraft you can land perfectly every time, even with a keyboard.

During the Vietnam war, this type of aircraft was involved in a unique air combat incident. An Air America ( CIA in other words ) Bell UH1-D helicopter was heading towards a secret US special forces base in Cambodia ( or maybe Laos, can't remember ). Anyway, the crew spotted two North Vietnamese AN-2s below them, presumably sent to find said base and report back. Trying to out run the Huey, the Colts descended into a valley but because the Huey stayed above them, they couldn't climb to find a way out.

One of the American crewmen then sat in the big open doorway of the Huey with an AK-47, and as they descended on top of the enemy machines, fired into each cockpit area. Both Colts were shot down.

Here's something to try if you have the throttle in the correct place and the engine still won't fire.. shift view to outside and it will fire Odd but there you go
