I didn't know him all that well but I felt real sadness when I heard the news.

A shock indeed he was often relating to me how as a boy he frequented my local area in Gloucestershire, Staverton airport in particular where many a small boy spent countless hours and also South Cerney where we both flew from in gliders in the 60's.

Condolences to his family, he will be missed for sure.

A great shock and terribly hard for Stacey and young Tag.

I also chatted to Leif about mutual haunts in Gloucestershire where we both lived. Mainly pubs now I think of it. The Air Balloon and The Black Horse at Cranham were mutual favourites.

He was also the driving force behind Venture Hawaii the virtual airline he created on FSAirlines. Hawaii was another place he loved and the home of his wife.

I'll miss him,
Jon

Oh that's such a pity. He was counting the days to his retirement in Hawaii.

Leif and I frequented some of the same Gatwick drinking haunts in the 70s although we never knowingly met.

I'm sure his family would wish to hear condolences from all his friends around the globe and I think Toby's idea of pointing to this thread is an excellent one. It's so comforting to hear of the ways that a loved one has affected other people's lives and these thoughts will definitely be appreciated. I also think that waiting to do so would lessen the impact - my feeling is to let them know how we feel straight away.

Shocked and deeply saddened by this news.
Leif contributed to our community greatly, through his knowledge and sense of humour. He will be missed immensely.
My thoughts go out to his family.

I am very saddened to hear this, but even more sadly I am not entirely shocked by it. Few people were aware that Leif was one of ( I think 4) current or former pilots who held professional licences ( Peter McL, Tonks, Leif and me, and there may be others) who were regular contributors to this site, and that he would still have been a current pilot but for medical problems some years ago , after which he continued in management jobs in the airline industry. He was extremely knowledgeable , and hid this most skilfully. I for one will miss him greatly
