Yes, that works very well and I'm happy now using RW Weather in REX. Perhaps they should get you to rewrite the manual in English! One question, though, and that is: having started P3D how can you access REX? I think I've answered my own question in that you'd have to start P3D in windowed mode and then go full screen after REX has started. Or have I missed an easier way?

BTW. Just tried it out and Sim Launcher is now up to 3.2! This one has a tick box to set IFROnly=0 at start up, which is a nice touch!

No probs Ian, and as Paul says, I'm sure there is more than one way to do it. I fired up SimLauncher for the first time in a week and was shocked to find that the version had gone from 2.3 to 3.0, hes done two point releases in 24 hours!

I have the benefit of two screens mate and I haven't run FSX full screen in years so I just flip between the two. No doubt theres other things you can use it for such as flight planning etc, but I haven't really touched that bit of it

Ah yes. Two screens. I might indulge in a larger external monitor for the laptop and display P3D on that. It eventually occurred to me that my problem with the small dials on the RJ might be something to do with viewing it on a 17.3in screen

Meanwhile, running in windowed mode isn't a problem - I can't detect any difference in graphics or frame rates, it's just a bit narrower.

Ian, this is the way I go about it. It differs from Ben's way so bear in mind I already have 'Use Real Weather Data' selected by default, as below.






So, I start Sim Launcher, and ensure User Defined Weather is selected. Then I either choose the default flight or create a new one at any other airport I fancy.




Once I am in P3D ( windowed mode...I always fly in windowed mode ). I click on the REX icon, allow the Weather Download Process to complete ( blue arrow ) then click on Fly Now ( red arrow ) as below...






You will then go back into the sim, and click on the Load Weather button ( yellow arrow ) as below...




In the sim, you will get a green message bar saying 'Assembling real time weather data' ( brown arrow ) as below...



...and at the same time, in REX, you will have this, as below. The green bar across the top ( orange arrow ) is the weather download progress bar , not the weather insertion. Its just downloading weather data here, ready to inject into the sim. Note that this is different from Ben's method in that because I already had P3D running before starting REX, REX knows where I am in the sim and I don't have to enter an ICAO code - as you can see on the little map, REX shows me correctly at Ketchikan. The disadvantage of this method, is that you don't get a met report as you do with Bens method






Once the weather is injected into the sim, you will get another green message bar saying 'Real time weather loaded successfully' and you should actually see some changes take place in the clouds etc as below







If you want to be sure and force a weather reload, right click on the black border and select Load Weather ( green arrows ) as below...You'll get the two green message bars come up again in the sim, as before

OK I see the variation to Ben's, which I've been using successfully, and I'll try this way a few times and see which one seems easier for me. A couple of things I've learnt from yours, Paul. I hadn't realised that the RW option was saved as a default so I don't need to select that every time. Also I wasn't aware of the menu available when right clicking the window border. Actually, I think I did read that but I forgot it

Also, I didn't realise that REX knew where I was. So that's easier than Ben's way for a casual flier like me. Just turn on the weather once the sim's loaded and let it follow me around. I like it!

Thank you very much for that. And thank you too Ben. I now know all I need to know about REX and I can just enjoy it without trying to understand the menu

I really don't know how you cope with all that. I thought Active Sky Advanced was complicated cause I don't know what the majority of the buttons will do. Hats off to you both for muddling on through
