Congratulations on the retirement and that's a lovely leaving present.

My old man retired from the job in 2010 and he's happier and more relaxed than I've ever known him. You'll love it I'm sure. He certainly does!

Even without the loss of easily identifyable things like the uniform and ID pass, a change of long term function will take some time to absorb.
People used to retire when their life expectancy was very short. Now we need to prepare for decades following our full time jobs.
Hope you find a personally rewarding pursuit.

BTW, I knew a fellow who loved camping. He made a career out of taking groups on camping tours.

I took early retirement on my 58th birthday and never once in the intervening six-and-a-half years have I had cause to regret that decision. I did, though, have to explain to a couple of members of my family who were worried about me stopping work at such a (relatively) young age that I was only retiring from paid employment... not life!
