Ian ,
Just playing catchup …. Sounds like Speepig might have been on yours or mine crewlists …might be a challenge to unmask the nom de plume ..
Ken and his fag ash were old in ’83 . So was a huge surprise to find him still there in 2003 when I got back to longhaul from shorthaul .
Now you have to remember I’m BEA , ‘’ back every afternoon’’ originally so I was only ever masquerading as BOAC ‘’ back on a camel ‘’…… so honestly I never got to Bangkok ; ‘tho have heard some of the stories . That’s honestly , honest .
We did raise a glass to you in a couple of old haunts recently . Staff travel had a couple of seats to Oz and Emirates got us across the Tasman for a quick visit to a reli temporally in NZ. We raised a glass from the Waiheke ferry as it passed the SeaBee air base . The ramp is still there , but now a heli base , for air ambulance and police + visitors . One of the Widgeons is dismantled at Ardmore airfield outside Auckland .
On the way back , ‘cos Jules had never been downunder [ Shuttle , Shorthaul and the rocket ] we nightstopped and had brekkie in Circular Quay , ‘n raised another to you . It got lighter but was weird as the Bridge and Opera house disappeared in thick fog . Winter was in on The Far side of the World , 'n i certainly had a whinging pom with me ... '' I'm cold again ''
Meant to look again , and this time remember … does the water swirl round and out the sink plug in the opposite direction to the northern hemisphere ? ….. Forgot to look , but here in Daarset just now [ pause for a test ] , it went around clockwise . Any Cobbers or Kiwi’s awake out there ?
Ian ATB to you , and looking forward to more tall tales , arresting adventures , 'n derring do's in far away places . Keep 'em coming please .
Brgds Dave f .
