But how does one argue about distributing freeware one has learned to create? - for others to learn how to fly that particular model I suppose & maybe learn how it was created?
I think the issue
could be that as it's not an entertainment product there's likely to be more interest from the actual aircraft manufacturers, who wouldn't want inaccurate renditions of their aircraft being used for training or competing with their own or officially licensed products.
This can also hit payware developers whose licence from the manufacturer may only cover them for entertainment products for the same reasons, e.g. if it's an officially licensed Boeing 747 add-on for a training sim that could open Boeing up for liability further down the line.
Obviously a lot of this is theoretical but ultimately the original manufacturer owns the rights to their design and it's up to them how they choose to police it, with P3D being officially for training and simulation they
may be more cautious about things.

Good Point! It looks as if a lot of P3D freeware etc could vanish then!

Are the files split like v1.4?

Sorry guys, not intending to boast. Here is what I have discovered so far;
Installation from the download takes around 4 minutes
It does some pretty crazy things regarding display the first time you run it but it quickly settles down
Unless you can run DX11 with your video card, it will not run so do not purchase it
Used default F35, frame rates set at 30
You must assign the joystick controls
Much nicer interface and it loads much quicker than either FSX or 1.4.
Available as 1 complete or multiple downloads.
Machine is Haswell i4770 at 3.5 Ghz
2 SSD drives
Nvidia 770 card
Broadband is Infinity 2 from BT and as I live less than 1 mile from the exchange I get 68M download speed with 20M upload.
Yes I do like it.

Only joking Nev
Thanks for the feedback. I'll be grabbing it this evening. Looking forward to it, although I fear a video card upgrade may be in the works.
Actually, the missus asked me yesterday what I wanted for Christmas

The website there is understandably running very slowly at the moment, but once you get into your account (if you have one) it goes much quicker.
The total download for me (academic licence - think they're all the same at the moment anyway) is 10.5GB - but don't worry if, like me, your broadband is not so quick - they are broken down into about 11 parts, the largest of which is 1.3GB. There are nine parts of just over 1GB and a couple of smaller ones - the msi and exe files.
I'm going to use my netbook to download it all - saves on the electricity bill!
I've been rather bored of late, what with trying to keep myself busy with the same old same old - but now I get P3Dv2
and a new bass guitar at the same time! Going to be busy for months, now!

Downloaded and installed FTX Global 1.1 with the triple installer (includes P3D v2). Not tried it for too long but much impressed with what I have seen to date. As Nev said you get a few graphic glitches the first time around but these quickly settle down to overall very good performance. Still get blurries (so far anyway) when switching between internal and external views but I haven't played much with the settings yet. Most sliders are set toward the right. The level of detail out to quite a distance is substantial. No popping up autogen! Graphically and performance wise it's streets ahead of P3D v1.4 and FSX.
As for the general interface; there's an option now for the sim to open up with a scenario setup screen where it's possible to select vehicle, location, season, time of day, weather and graphics profile. The first time the sim runs it starts with a default setup which saw me hurtling down a runway in the F22 so you have to select the setup screen to show at startup.
Bottom line: is it worth the outlay and significant pain of having to reinstall all those add-ons - absolutely yes is my verdict.

Chris

Very much agree with Chris.
P3DV2 runs so fluidly straight from install. You also get Carenado's Beech A36 Bonanza thrown in too

. Worth every penny.
Looks like I'll have a busy few days installing all my add-ons. I still have P3D 1.4 and FSX installed, so should be able to copy files accross.

Kevin
