Hi again,

If Dave F is still having trouble with that awful FS9 default misplaced shoreline and scenery for Barra, this is some SBuilder landclass I did to fit my FS9. It's not 100% accurate but has to fit around my FSGenesis without getting hills in the water. Better than default anyway?

I can let you have the files if you want. Textures are Lennart's North Europe.

Never been to Barra, but the look of the times was clear - could have been holidays for me as a kid.

EDIT: Someone recently said that the twin Otter was the only aircraft capable of operating off the beach; the Heron squashes that little theory!

There are lots of aircraft capable of operating from there but size-wise.. the Twotter is about the biggest at the moment. BEA operated from there for years with the Rapide and the Heron superceded it when it came into operation

Just to update the story, the Scottish Government is to purchase 2 new Viking Air Twin Otter series 400 to replace the existing DHC6-300 aircraft. There is a Hebrides News article on the subject from a few years ago:

There was talk some time ago about building a new airport on Barra to allow more conventional aircraft to operate the service but it never happened (no surprise there) so STOL aircraft will still be used for some time to come.

Went to see St.Paddy in November and did the Twotter flight with my younger brother. did it the other way last year from Benbecula-Barra-Glasgow. On the first leg I was the only passenger. Can see why that leg has been discontinued. Shame anyway.

Islanders, Trislanders have been regular users in their time.

They do get a few light aircraft movements a year.

Short 360 did sometimes land but only if there was no water laying on the beach...I guess they meant wet sand.

Can you imagine what wet sand driven up into the gear bays would do?

I have AI BEA Skyvans landing there and the sand doesn't bother them. I did notice one had parked with it's nose through a bush though

The Skyvan had fixed gear...no wheel bays, the 360 was retractable...but neither are bush compatable

As real as it gets eh!!

Well.. I took the Heron out of service when the Skyvan came along. I think I'd better it it back
