Must admit I'm not usually a big manual reader but it is worthwhile on this beast given that some of the switches are in odd places - hide yoke, generators, and fuel cocks for a start! :-O The walk through of the tutorial flight is pretty thorough. One thing in the manual which worries me re the chance of getting the trim problem fixed is that the flight dynamics were apparently done by the late Wayne Tudor.

However, there is as Dave says, lots to like. The claustrophobic feel of the cockpit seems very "right". It drives very well on the tarmac (some 'planes seem almost un-manageable on the ground even if they are OK in flight) and the sounds are good. I hope that the problems with the trim are fixed though, cos it is a bigger challenge to fly than I think it ought to be at present. *-)

 TBH, I only looked at the manual because I'd noticed 3 different aircraft.cfgs in the folder, (aircraft.cfg, aircraftHD.cfg & aircraftSTD.cfg) and wondered if it was a different flight model or what. No mention of it in the manual, and a quick file comparison showed them to be identical anyway!
Overall, I do like it though. :)

Ah.. that might cause a problem (re getting the trim fixed). Ours was done by Brian Withers.. himself an accomplished pilot with a couple of thousand hours on Shacks and thousands of hours on the Nimrod and they were done with a great deal of care over a period of time in order to get them within fighting distance of the real thing.

In this mornings flight.. I noticed that trim requirements are pretty much the opposite of what they should be. Drop the gear and you need trim down.. the Air Atlantique Ops Manual for DeltaVictor states the opposite and flap operation is the same. Full flap is pretty much redundant. It's nice they went for nosewheel steering rather than a castoring nosewheel and turning by diff braking. Much easier to get about the place without looking like a numpty

I don't like the comm boxes on either side of the cockpit. While the one on the RH side doesn't look too bad from the pilots seat, the one on the pilots side appears the size of a ghetto-blaster. Pan round to the left and Y I K E S.. WTF is that :-O  Oddly, I can't recall seeing these on any Dove I've been in. Probably been knicked (err.. removed) or my memory lapsing a wee bit :)

While it doesn't seem particularly heavy on frames.. I did notice the main airport building on the IoS had gone see-thru as I taxied in. I left before the rest of the airfield disappeared around me  Thankfully.. both Predannack and Culdrose were intact when I returned.

It has an RN paint so I have to like it. Just wish a little more attention to detail with the FD had been given. Fingers crossed it makes JF a few bob which will encourage them to take on more 'Brits' ;)

Question, re. the RN Devon. Is the font correct for the "Royal Navy" text?
Google seems to show that's how the real aircraft is painted ATM, but I'm not convinced that's authentic. *-)

I know what you mean Dave.. the 'squashed' look *-) As you say.. many 'period' phots tend to show this is how it looked but it's difficult to tell how much of it was due to perspective :dunno: I can't put hand on heart and say it's definitely wrong or right I'm afraid.

Plenty of RN paint possibilities for it (the Dove/Devon that is)

I didn't want to mention the com boxes Dave, but that was the very first thing that I noticed when I took a quick look at the screen shots at JF, damn, a hard landing could leave you with some serious head trauma lol.

BTW how is it on frame rates?, I'm struggling to run any payware on FSX even after a bl**dy expensive upgrade, I've NEVER managed a full trip with the PMDG T7 without a freeze.

Robbie.

Hello mate :hello:

It's not bad.. a bit heavier than I expected but ok on my i5. Those boxes are dire aren't they. If you get it, don't look left!

I purchased and installed last night also. Made a quick flight, liked it, noticed the trim issue but since i'm no expert drew no conclusions. I did notice the three aircraft.cfg files.

I have pretty much converted over to P3D, which pretty much fixed the things that annoyed me about FSX (It could also be that since I last seriously used fsx I upgraded by old Core2Duo desktop to an i7gen3 based alienware laptop). But the one thing that annoys me about P3D is in the screen where you select aircraft they use the title property instead ui_manufacturer, ui_type, ui_variation properties, so I have been changing the titles to something more human readable. But the three aircraft.cfg caused much confusion in my tired brain, so I went to bed.

I had a quick look in the PK folder, but not opened the actual files yet. *-)
Hopefully someone will take up the challenge!
