Re the haggis, I agree with Andy. The best ones are very nice, also hogmanay/ new years eve I find a bit of a non event.Having said which the Edinburgh fireworks and live bands are a real spectacle for the thousands that gather for the evening in the city centre.
As another Englishman in Scotland I think we'll need to ween the Scots off their bad habits! EricT
ps I'll have a dram while I think how to do it.

Total non event here, kind of takes the interest out of it to watch celebrations from Toronto on TV which occured 3 hours previously :-(
Plus our plans were scuppered by late in the day snowfall which trapped us indoors.
On the +ve side, I did have an ample supply of Drambuie.
btw - good haggis has to be prepared in a sheep stomach to be genuine. Here I recently found a British shoppe which sells it infrequently in a plastic bag at inflated prices. it went to the dog who liked it.
