I just transposed a couple of letters in my surname to cope with the fact that I have one of the commonest names in the UK. Its proved suprisingly durable and works in lots of places. Only problem is people regularly mis-spell it...

I am also working on a generic password strategy which ought to be something like:

NoIcantrememberwhetherthisshouldhave5or6or7charactersmaybean uppercasecharacterandaspecialcharactereitherincludingornotincluding*and!

Hehe, great thread 🙂

Charlie Bravo... The phonetic names of my initials.

Elsewhere online, I also reside as Bacon, a nickname that has stuck with me for over 15 years now. Chris B... Chris B Bacon.

Nothing witty. Just a part of my surname and my initials. Actually when I was working, it was the username allocated to me by my employer for intranet use and I think it was a standard arrangement at the time. Saved me the trouble of thinking of one for myself! Interesting thread though. :) EricT

My original name on here was Major Clanger.
No particular reason, I just liked the Clangers as a kid and it seemed to fit here.

Mine's simple. My surname is Swan and for a radio sketch about a circus in which I wrote and performed (back in the nineties), I referred to myself as 'Swanoir the Strongman'. My mates started calling me Swanoir and the nickname stuck!

Looks like I am a rather boring sort. I use my first name and the initial of my last name.

I'm a member of the "boring club" too, Nigel and for the same reason.

The only reason I don't use it is when PeteP is not available - PPRuNe and eBay for example - when I use aliases related to my former profession and location. Once, when selling plastic kits on eBay on behalf of Tangmere, one of the buyers worked it out and asked if I was or had been an air traffic controller - turned out he had been too.
