For sure mate, the 1-11 is an odd-ball in this respect. I'd have expected to see Smiths instrumentation in all versions except the export models but no. Collins is (or at least appears to be) fitted in all aircraft with the exception of the exBA
The 510ED's do look quite bare don't they. It's difficult to tell exactly if some instrumentation off the centre panel hasn't been removed from the museum examples but if so, the same instruments have been moved with only the odd exception. That's the beauty of modelling panels for flightsim. They're never right but they're never wrong!!

Or should the GS pointer hide as well if it's not tuned to an ILS frequency?

I think the 'missing' item on the 510 central panel is he space where the Decca moving map display went. In true BEA fashion it was common to the Trident and 1-11, but fell into disuse as other navaids overtook it. I wonder if there is an airliners.net photo with it still fitted?

Getting back to my originl query in the 1-11 G/S flag. I have just finished a 747-400 avionics course and had a word with the instructor about this, as he was an instrument man on the 1-11. He said the flag wouldn't be in view unless you were tuned to an ILS frequency. He added that you don't want any flags in view if all is normal.
