I myself used Omega or Tweeksrus modified drivers. Better IQ with the same, if not more performance then the stock.

yep there's an improvement on my 5500 - i lock mine on 25fps anyway, but it can certainly render clouds better.

thanks for that

edit: i was running FS in windowed mode to test, but now when i go full screen the image is stretched 200 percent across the screen! so the centre is now the right side of the screen. when i hit alt to bring up the menu or in window mode it is fine and normal - but that sort of ruins the experience...

it happens when i set graphics anti-aliasing to 2x or 2xq - none, within fs or 4x it is fine. 2 is my favourite for quality and performance though. filtering has no effect on the issue that i can find.

any ideas what could be causing this or how to rid it?

That was the same problem I had with that card. I got fed up with it and went back to the old drivers

I've got the FX5500 card like hinch and rich byrne. If I try to control anti-aliasing with the driver, I get the same problems, but there are no problems if you allow application control. Although the frame rate was much improved, the new driver caused frame freezes every 20 secs or so. After half an hour of fiddling with the settings, in a fit of pique, I clicked 'reset defaults'. Bingo! Smooth as a baby's and FPS up from around 20 to high 30s!

The only settings I've changed are: In FS: locking FPS at 40 and in the driver: High Performance.

Thank you to Peter (and NVidia  )

no pun intended
 but all is not glitter and gold...

But I my grass and tress have a glittery effect to them now
the drawing distance has improved to distant buildings
and the frame rates are higher but the sparkley effect
is wacky

any suggestions? maybe which textures ppl are using (in the freeware catagory)

Thanks ,
Joe
:worried:
PS. I can't tell a fib here..... the pun was purley intentional
