Snap Trev I reckon a few unnecessary poly's have gone too as this and the Sea Venom, though very similar, had much different frame hits.
Anyone got any idea of how the underwing reg should have been?? Danno may have got it right but it doesn't look right if you see what I mean

Hi ChrisChris H wrote:Were the Admirals Barge aircraft ever mint-green? The only reference I can find about this is a rather lurid green Vampire model when I search for images, and I'm assuming it's a fictional aircraft with no reference as I believe XX160 is a Hawk serial (do they re-use the numbers?)
I don't think they were mint and mentioned above.
XX160 is a Hawk
They don't re-use serials and that serial is far too late for a Vampire

"XX160"
Sounds like someone saw a bit of an underwing reg from VV160 and assumed XX160?
They haven't experienced Garry and me
Edit: the above was speculation - just dug out my Post-war Military Aircraft Vol5 "Vampire, Venom and Sea Vixen" which says "Vampire F Mk20 VV136-165, English Electric-built for RN"

Thanks Garry. I never was a spotter so the numbers are just that to my eyes.Garry Russell wrote:Hi ChrisChris H wrote:Were the Admirals Barge aircraft ever mint-green? Point is chaps, Dan has obviously copied the reg off that shot in the gallery and to my eyes (even with my glasses on) the reg on the boom looks very much like XX160. I don't know what else it could be  The first two letters are definately XX.. the fist number is 1.. the second looks more like a 6 to me than any other number and the last one is 0 :o  Right or wrong, it certainly looks like what is painted on the aircraft in PeteP's shot.
That aside.. I'd be reasonably sure that Dan has the underwing reg's wrong. Both face fwd and the LH should face back.

The list in the zip file on this page reports to be a full production list... no XX's to be found.

The Navy didn't use a strange numbering scheme for the barge's did they?

Definately not XX far too late a serial and belongs to a Hawk. XX is mid 1970's
I have enlarged it and it is XA(?)60.............XA160 was a Vampire and a T.22 at that.
