My goodness chaps, I think the Wasp may be well beyond my capabilities, let alone my dear wife's patience!

Andy, we'll never know what would have happened - but on that note, what happened to that Miles project you were tinkering with? Any screenies for us?

Sketchy, I got your email thank you mate and will take you up on that beer. It really was too bad I didn't get to meet up with you and Skippy recently so now we have a lot of making up for that to do. CHEERS I especially need to get that beer in before Beeny Mk.II arrives in November!

p.s. if anyone is interested, I am branching into waters new, with a Sea Hawk inspired clothing line. Yes, I said clothing line. This is what living in Orange County will do to you. ;-) I figure if I'm going to spend nearly a year slogging away on something I may as well wear the T-shirt now it's (nearly) finished. I've only got one on there at the mo, but there will be more, and with the Pound so strong against the dollar, chaps, it might make a nice present from your wives/girlfriends!

Plug over. Now back to work!

** UPDATE:

I just spent an evening sorting out the smoky startup effects - my first real attempt at editing the bu**ers. Not too bad if I do say so myself. Content with that, I spent my first evening flying off Seaking's/Skippy's/Fraser's Ark - wow, what a treat there chaps! Too bad I need a LOT of practice at traps!

Sorry mate, I just miss the wet stuff! Liquid sunshine indeed, I just have to remember to keep the canopy closed on take off and landing.

In the meantime I've been playing with the smoky startup - what do you think of the latest? Getting closer?

Excellent stuff Steve, my only worry is how to land on a carrier (or anything else really) with that gunsight in the way! The panel looks great, all the same.

Trev,
Simple if the gunsight is obscuring the carrier you're going the right way!

Steve,
looking very nice, now if we can just get some sort of formation start up!

May I suggest that the smoke be a little more dense, in the real startup the smoke is so thick you cannot see through it. The smoke column also seems a little tall at present but in a wind that apparent height would be reduced of course.

Small point in RN aircraft the gunsight would probably have 'feet' not 'metres' inscribed on it.

I am still a inches/feet/yards/rod/pole/perch/chain/furlong/mile man!

Hobby, I am with you 100% on the smoke density; I was thinking that this morning and will beef it up a bit more tonight. The plume may be a touch tall still, but it behaves a bit funny when I reduce it too much, so we may have to go with that height for now.

As for the sight measurements, that is actually taken from a photo I took of the sight from WV797 at the MAM, so unless they painted it incorrectly there, metric was indeed the unit in this particular case. Peter should chime in here as I am sure he will remember.

In some cases it is not clear however:

There's one for sale on Ebay if anyone is interested (an earlier version):

I usually start swaying about with the rudder till it looks roughly right! Maybe this is why I've bent a few of them. No one said flying this thing was going to be easy...consider it a challenge, Trev! Maybe one day I will learn how to build VCs and re-visit the project.

Steve, taxing my old memory banks, I think the closest is with the red paint scheme, smoke didn't go very high in the air
it was like a "crack" then "blast" a few feet high of smoke befoe the engine kicked in. Hope that helps.
