Steve here is a picture of the sight in the retracted position in a Meteor 8:-

Unfortunately the camera is about at chest level in order to best show the instruments...Imagine the camera up at eye level and you will be looking over the top of the sight even with that recorder camera on it.

The bipole switch marked 11 is mounted on the end of the left diagonal ramp that the sight moves on...The line from 13 passes through the right ramp. The two ramps are set on the same sloping plane as the front windscreen. When switch 11 is operated the entire sight will motor up the ramps upwards and backwards towards your face. When it is fully up then your line of sight will look straight ahead through the inclined GGS sight glass and will see the two graticules focused out at infinity...The recorder camera does get in the way of your vision and you rely on peering through the sight glass for all vision directly foreward...This is better with the recorder camera removed and even better with the sight rectracted as in the picture...Remember that your head and eyes are way above the camera position for this photo and the sight will not obstruct in any way when retracted :flying:

Peter, many thanks for the detailed explanation and Meteor image, you'll be pleased to know Hobby is hard at work in assisting to make this panel right. In the meantime, I have been back at work with the smoke effects and have added the density we were after earlier in the week.

I imagine the Seahawk had a similar cartridge to the Venom...Here is a picture of the Venom one firing:-

I take it that like Peters shot the smoke will be affected by wind "in Game"..?

Be great to see on an aircraft carrier the cartridge start up with the wind blowing the smoke down the deck..... :)

Honestly I don't know if wind will affect the smoke as in real life...I am able to adjust the angle of the smoke in the fx file, but it remains to be seen if the wind will 'blow' it. It would be cool if it did.

Peter, in your Vampire shot, the smoke seems to be coming out almost laterally - was that a feature of the vent, or just a really windy day? BTW, I finally sat down and went through your site page by page this weekend- what superb photos and stories, a real pleasure to read.

John, yes indeed, get your tools ready, I'm thinking low level over Port Said with guns blazing 1956 style will make for some good action shots.

Hi Steve

I have left ordinary smoke on by mistake and on the ground the trail is at at angle as blown by the wind once the aircraft stops so it should be possible if not already there

That Vampire is a Venom Steve...The Vamp didn't have a cartridge start. If you imagine that picture with the smoke is taken with zero wind, that is the direction that the vent pointed...slightly upwards on the starboard beam :flying:

BTW...I think you will find that the smoke blows nicely in the wind...It does on all my Bandit smoke effects.

Humble apologies there, Peter, you did even point out that it was Venom and I completely missed it. Burning the midnight oil a bit too much these days is about the only excuse I can offer! Good to hear from you and Garry that the wind does indeed blow the effect.

Check out this short video of startup. I am now using a soundset by Greg Logan (with his kind permission) of an Allison J33 engine which was somewhat comparable to the Nene and of the same era. Nice meaty sounds, but unfortunately, the cartridge start comes mid-way through startup - not much I can do about that. I did get the hiss sound matched to it now though.

Skippy, I couldn't get your code to work, but in the end I found some slightly different code that seemed strictly for FS9. The only thing is, I had to match the new sound to fx_barn.wav and replace the chicken cluck sound, so this means users will have to backup or overwrite their old chicken sounds - that is unless you want some odd sounds coming out of your Sea Hawk cartridge vent! :lol: :lol:
