Yes you are correct.
Mr Mereweather must have wondered at the coincedence of 2 engine fires resulting in 2 dead stick landings on 2 airfields within 10 miles of each other!

Pete - thanks so much for posting those. I just wish I had been there since I am about your age (ok, a year older) and seeing the Vulcan, Trident and indeed all the others up close and personal would have been a real thrill. Unfortunatly, by 1962 my parents had dragged all of us across the pond.

OFFTOPIC
Pete - I misspoke and my old mum min took me to task - It wasnt a Sapphire it was a Hurricane bought from a certain
Glosters test pilot who had a habit of flying Javelins upside down -
this is like the beastie - even the colour is the same (according to mum)
He totalled the thing late 62 early 63 returning from Nymphsfield Gliding Club in his cups
Sorry I got off the thread

Wow! Now that's what I call arriving in style, Leif! It beats my Southdown bus hands down!
Also OFFTOPIC
Funny you should mention Javelins, though. How about this beastie, photographed on Saturday 14 September 1957 at the RAF Tangmere "At Home" day.

Petehave you a good shot of Herald G-ARTC in Maritme Central livery?
I think it was the only Herald there that year...nose appears in the background of one of the pics.
