Years ago I had a friend who's Dad was a BEA engineer. He could start up and taxy Viscounts and give them engine run ups in the corner then taxy them back.......but he was not a pilot.
Even if they are ex pilots on type they are neither current or under test pilot rules :think:

According to the source mentioned in Chris H's post above, both fast taxying Victors in the UK are crewed by ex-Victor pilots and aircrew. More interestingly, the comments on one operator's view of the way the other operates are intriguing and possibly enlightening.

It's really getting ridiculous now. Seems that someone's going round trying to get any mention or discussion (and that was quite an interesting and useful discussion - certainly a couple of comments were enlightening) of the incident removed from the web.
I wonder how long before the moderators here receive a request to have this thread removed. Pprune had removed a couple of threads, but have now decided that any "damage" has been done, and the photo's preciously posted on Flickr have appeared there in the thread they're allowing to run.

You'd think CWJ might do something traditional like issue a press release if they were that concerned of misinformation. A statement of initial known facts would be far better than some tabloid journo building a story around the available photos and internet rumour.
To be honest I'm inclined to think the cover up isn't so much a cover up as a means of keeping the press getting their grubby mitts on photographs of the incident and blowing it all out of proportion as they usually do.
At least I hope that's what it's all about, there's obviously no way the relevant authorities aren't aware of what went on, in fact I'm sure they will have had someone there on the day anyway, if not in any official capacity then certainly to enjoy the festivities.
I also honestly believe that the vast majority of people asking to see the pictures are just in awe and want to see it with their own eyes to get an idea of what happened.
But yes, the comments made by someone associated with Lusty Lindy at Elvington were particularly enlightening.

They're very naive in that case in thinking that everyone would adhere to there wishes - and the photo's which have appeared are proof. I'd be very surprised if someone isn't a hundred quid or so better off already for tomorrow's press.
The Bruntingthorpe team would not try to cover something like this up. They are proffesionals and would most probably have informed the CAA straight away, that being the sensible and responsible thing to do. Otherwise, with all the hype on the net flying around, the CAA would be straight on the phone to Brunty, in a panic to try to find out what happened. All the Brunty team want, for now, is discretion, presumably before some do-gooder jumps in on the bandwagon.
I videoed it - but have no intension of posting it! Not wishing to desribe the incident in detail until a more appropriate time, I will say there was a stiff crosswind which may have had something to do with it. But the fact that it all happened INSIDE the Airfield, may mean that the CAA will let it pass - certainly don't think they will bann this event.
My immediate thought (apart from disbelief) was one of concern, rather than "Wow! it's airborne!!" And then pondering the thought of what if the crew were forced to shoot a circuit....that WOULD provoke a different response from the CAA. Thank God they stopped it before crashing into the trees that surround Bruny, and that the crew were all OK - that's the main thing, no one was hurt.
