I would never have another French car.

Had them all in the past. Peugeot/Citroen and Renault.

I was back at the dealers so often they started inviting me on their staff nights out.

You've never owned an Austin then. I used to have the front wheel bearings changed with every tank of gas on the Maestro 1.6L I owned (a slight exaggeration.. 3 times in 2 years)

Are these standard Police issue?? My cousin is an inspector in Devon and Cornwall and he has one too My dad has a Fabia but we won't go there
Got 'em in Lincoln and most officers prefer them. Years ago I bought a new Talbot Alpine :$ Within a year or rather 11 months rust started creeping through took it back to the dealer and the work shop manager came out to look, he opened the boot then the bonnet then the doors....gave me the impression he knew what he was looking for and where. In the end they did a deal, swapped it (more money that is from moi) for a.........wait for it........This is sooooo embarrassing.....
a Talbot Horizon :wall: Eventually and much later (could not afford to do another replacement) finally got rid of that, terrible it was...really terrible. Oh, happy memories of wasted money. :wall:

Been there, done that with the Talbot Horizon :$ . The first Mrs H had a new one (red, V-reg IIRC). But (and you'll have to forgive me since it was around the time we split, my memory is a bit hazy and I was clearly in a strange state of mind) we had a metallic green Horizon and a chocolate brown Horizon. Two at the same time! But then earlier we had a red and a green Renault 5 at the same time. And I have a suspicion that I traded in a 3.5 V8 Rover SD1 for the brown Horizon - it's the only explanation for the timeline, but writing that down, I can't quite believe it. I moved on to Vauxhalls and a new life after that ;)

Overall the three Horizons were trouble-free, or is that the rose-tinted glasses of history?

Hi Ben,

Hold on a tic, can't remember what engine it was but there was a problem with some of the Vectra petrol engines. I'll try googling and see if I can trawl it up but there was a design problem I think on one of the engine components (electrics I think) which led to some cutting out of the engines at the wrong (e.g. outside lane motorway) time. I think it might have been the 2.2 but will see what I can find.

Edit : Here's one hit.

..........and another.

John

Hi John,

Not to worried about this as a fuel pump is an easy change. Changed them on Nova's, Mondeo's and a Golf so I'm sure I can manage a Vectra

Hi Ben,

I've also got no qualms about changing a fuel pump etc having built two kit cars. The thing that would concern me is the action taken by the electronics when a fault is detected and the possible heart-stopping results. Have you considered the 150bhp diesel engined version? I've had a diesel VW Golf GT Tdi 140BHP for four years now and love it.

I don't like deisel, but everyone seems to suggest its a good idea. I had a Deisel Pugeot once and all though it was a great car (and the 1.9D engine was a cracker) I just hated it. Thing is, if you get into a car each morning and regret buying it, just stuffed, regardless of how good it really is, whereas if you get into a car you like, you'll be more forgiving of its faults. TBH I'd just love another 620ti, but all good things must come to an end.

I bought my first Citroen 3 years ago and have just traded it in for another. It's a C1, so it's not French at all, it's a Toyota and it's built in Czech Republic

Conversely you could argue it is French with a Jap badge  Infact, I'm sure it 90% PSA (Peugeot / Citroen)?
