Re: What is it?
Thanks for the explanation. The Doc gave me some cream for the itching but he neglected to tell me the cause....now I know!511Flyer wrote:Hale-Bopp will be back in the year 4534. Apparently, it's round the back of Uranus at the moment.
Just thought you'd like to know.

Re: What is it?
All jokes aside, that photo of Hale-Bopp is a brilliant bit of work, with such basic equipment. Anyone for a threepenny bombsight?
As to squirrels, a few years back I read a query in 'New Scientist' , where the inquirer started off by saying "The other morning I saw a squirrel burying his nuts in the lawn" and it was weeks before I could get past that line without cracking up - it conjured up an image of a misjudged leap, and a subsequent loss of elevator authority 'at a height from which recovery was impossible' .
It is a great and terrible thing to be seven-eighths Irish

Thanks for the input, you band of misfits and hoolligans.
thought I'd post a shot I did in the rim canal of the Everglades ( this is west of Boca Raton great place to hitch a ride on a airboat , if you dare ,)
this shot was about 10 to 15 seconds over exposed, which caused some trailing if the comet across the sky just a tad to make it appear a little
bigger than normal

The Barn Door tracker was a neat project, The hardest part was setting it up and finding the north star thru the tube.. and then rotating the screw
in time with the second hand of my watch. ( and not bumping the tripod. )
The interesting part is: when the screw runs thru the furniture nut in the top board it appears the top board is rising away from the bottom board.
But in reality , it is the bottom board moving, allowing the tripod to rotate back with the earth. Keeping the lens fixed where it was pointed when
it went into motion
Edit
Also I want to mention this photo taken,, the tail was noticable larger and longer that night
It was a sight to behold , I later found out it was caused by solar winds from our sun .... some long time before that fateful
evening that the comet moved thru ... I met a guy that was telling me this, it had happened a good while before hale Bopp was discovered ... (
?)
which really isn't important ..... it's just , I was thinking to myself that night... man this is almost like viewing the sky from another planet or something.
I'd never seen anything like it. and I gazed and gazed and gazed at it's wonder..
