Read about astute the other day on the beeb.

Certainly an impressive piece of kit which suggests that we're still ahead in terms of technology. On a slightly related note I was also reading about the new queen Elizabeth class carriers. Very impressive indeed, will be interesting to see them squeezed into portsmouth.

I'd make a sub joke but most of them have already been done..

For ideas and technology the British still lead in many fields

The problem now......as in the past is the talent is not taken up or supported by Government orders so often goes abroad. :((

This shows that given the will to have it done in this country the results are cutting edge.

Sadly True.

It'll be interesting to see this in Service, the Technology used is outstanding. At least it'll keep Barrow Shipyards in business for a while.

All they need to do now is ensure that the Eurofighter continues to be supported, along with British Manufacturing.

Oh dear!

I thought the fact it could reflect Sound was pretty impressive, hiding under a ship and spying on its comms.

Mind you I guess Subs can sort of do that already by hiding behind the engines of the ship its tracking.

I also noticed that all crew get their own beds on this instead of hot bunking.

Its more of a cruise liner than a sub really!

Well...my dad was 28 years RN, most of that time as a submariner, my uncle was a submariner too..both on the T- and A class diesel-electric boats.

As well as spending a lot of time on board as a kid, I was brought up on the stories and can still smell them :-# (edit: below decks in the boats I mean....though my elders did stink of mildew ;) )

As an aside, my great-uncle Lewis was a submariner during WW1........that doesn't bear thinking about.

Why do you think I enlisted in the Army........
