God......I remember everything in the original post, and most of those in the follow up's.

We used to live in a prefab in a village in Essex when I was young. The prefabs were put up by German POW's to house people put out by the blitz.

I remember they had boilers (the washing machine of the day), with mangles attached (the spin drier of the day, but without the spin) as standard fittings.

Mum used to give us a penny, with which we could almost buy enough of the aforementioned sweets, to last us most of the week.

Happy days

Our milk came in tetra packs...the pyramid shaped packages

We used to put them through the mangle open end first to make them go with a bang

Sometimes the car would run over a discarded one on the road which mad you thing you'd just had a blow out if you caught them just right

I don't know if any of you Londoners remember 'Collars of Wembley' who used to collect and deliver the detached collars for laundry. They were in cardboard boxes.

Recent history now.. remember when Snickers was a Marathon bar.. Cif (Sif) was Jif and Starburst were Opal Fruits?? At a similar time, Nestle became 'Nestlay'(pron) Oh the humanities!
