Ahh I get you now i didn't realize that the prototypes lacked the extended nose gear I wasn't nit picking or anything just observing. the whole project is looking fantastic anyway anything Vulcan related always has a place in my hanger, can't have too much of a good thing!!! keep up the good work
P.S. was XM655 running at Wellsbourne today I kick myself for missing that!! I was at a wedding 2 miles away from there the weekend before last & promised myself I'd get up there and see her running!!! bugger!!!
Kindest Regards
Hooky

I like ALL the feedback it is very useful mainly because it makes me research the details and get them right I had no idea about the nose leg until you suggested it
Yes XM655 had it's big day yesterday wings and wheels, fantastic to see the Vulcan under power they are great to visit any time and often give tours around the aircraft Sunday mornings I believe

Longer nose leg to increase angle of attack...wasn't that why the RN Phantoms had a longer gear leg??

Garry, re RN Phantoms the nose wheel leg was jacked up / extended for take off only on carrier work from what I can remember.

Garry, yes I believe that was the reason a better take off attitude like the Bucc whose nosewheel was off the deck for take off this was achieved on the cat tension

Cheers Rich...I'd forgotten about the nose wheel off the deck on the Buccaneer
There was a takeoff technique for Vanguards on short runways where the nose was lifted slightly on the suspension as soon as able to increase the angle slightly.
Make you wonder how much of this was done...jacking up, lifting up, raising on suspension, longer gear legs....covers the possibility with any tricycle
I never realised about the Vulcan until yesterday

Take your time Doug, if a job is worth doing ......
I'm just looking forward to the opportunity to add this to my flightline. Shout if you need any more info; Warpaint didn't have a decent 3-view, but it does have lots of other goodies.

And of course this was a feature of the TSR2's design as well, with reduced takeoff distances in mind.
