Thank you Ben. I think I'll do the same before it gets too complicated. I'm at work on my iPad at the mo so I can't check but I think ORBX puts all its stuff in an ORBX folder anyway so that's a good start.

You can just use the Scenery Library interface in P3D to point at scenery file in your FSX install, there's no need to go round manually editing text files unless you really want to. With the slight bonus it works properly in Win 7 unlike the one in FSX.

Oh man it just gets easier!

If I wait long enough somebody will come round and do it for me :tunes:

Thanks, Skippy.

Is there something we should know?

My opponent, who is in Kabul with the MoD, and I are currently using John Tillers Campaign Series to refight Iwo Jima by email, but we are moving on to TOAW when I feel confident enough. Wargaming probably takes up as much of my time as flight simming. :)

speedbird591 wrote: I used the free fsx registry utility tool from Tweak FS. I copied FSX.exe into the P3D folder and commented out the original in FSX. Then I ran the utility to change the registry install path for FSX to P3D. The installer for Tongass Fjords X allows you to change the installation path. Once it was set it's click and go - and it worked first time.

Then I ran the tool again to reset the path to FSX and renamed the original FSX.exe.
Hmm, well thats gone all awry at this end. I have a layer of grass, below which is an airfield, and there is no mention of Tongass Fjord in the scenery library. Groan...here we go...

You have to add it manually in the scenery settings. It's in P3D in a folder called FSAddons.

I am a bit dubious about adding Scenery into P3D...I prefer to have the scenery in FSX. Then when P3D is upgraded to version 2 or whatever, involving uninstall of the existing version and install of the new version, all I have to do is save the added paragraphs in my Scenery.cfg file and then with the new version of P3D installed, I can add those paras to the new Scenery.cfg and all my added scenery will be back :)

You must have read my mind, Peter! I regretted doing it as soon as I installed it.

I've just finished uninstalling it from P3D and installing it into FSX. I used the scenery settings interface to point to FSX as Skippy said and it's written the new scenery.cfg for me.

Then I came back and read your timely post! It's what I'd intended to do in the first place, I think I just wanted to try that FSX registry tool which I might need for aircraft rather than scenery.

Paul won't be pleased with me when he comes back :hide: He's got urgent business fighting the Japanese at Iwo Jima so won't welcome any time wasting

Thanks Ian. Since that post, I find I now have a missing default scenery file in FSX, and after running the repair utility, I'm getting fatal errors in FSX. I fear the worst ... a clean re-install. Bugger!

I'm doing better at Iwo - I am the Japanese, and my opponent is suffering on the beach ;)

Well, you obviously lost the toss! Good luck with that!

He probably only wants the airport for his B-29s so if you make that unattractive to him he might go away. Perhaps if you disguise your airport as Heathrow he won't bother. He'll wait until B-52s are invented and leave you in peace.

If that doesn't work, I hope you have a sharp sword Image

Ian :)
