I think it's correct title was TS Bounty.. it certainly wasn't HMS Bounty ;) You can't go around claiming to be one of HM's ships when you're nothing more than a film prop

FlyTexas wrote:That's what I was thinking. Thanks for the clearification Larry. :) The movie studio did a real nice job of building the replica. Nowadays the Bounty would be a few small Hollywood sets and a lot of CGI.
I suppose the movie studio paid for it but she was built at a Canadian shipyard.

Anyone hear that the girl who died (Claudene Christian) is reportedly a decendent of Flether Christian.

And the guy who found HMS Bounty's remnants on Pitcirn Island in 1933 was Parkin Christian.

  The funny thing is that on the Bounty's website http://www.tallshipbounty.org/ at one point they actually refer to her as HMS Bounty.

"HMS Bounty...at one with the sea...global voyager...movie star...dedicated to preserving the fine art of square-rigged sailing."

The Queen might want to send da boys around to pay a little visit. ;)

Brian
ps - Wow Joe, you're correct about Claudene Christian being a decendant of Fletcher Christian. It's reported that Her Facebook page says...

"As a descendant of Fletcher Christian, played in four movies by Errol Flynn, Clark Gable, Marlin Brando & Mel Gibson, I'm sure my ancestor would be proud. However this time, there will be no Mutiny on this Bounty... At least not at the hands of me, a new generation of Christian Family Sailors!" :(

Yes.. I know they do. Can't see how they can do that because it ISN'T HMS Bounty. You can't just go lobbing HMS onto whatever you see fit.

Dare I say it but they're still taking bookings on the 'Bounty' for next year :worried: Joe.. you interested?? *-)

Seeing as she's featured in several movies as both the 'Bounty' and the 'Black Pearl' maybe a new movie could be made to coincide with the bookings called....

'Voyage to the bottom of the sea to raise the black pearl bounty'

:dunno:

  I wonder if anyone will raise her or if they'll just let her stay on the bottom? :dunno: Can you imagine nautical archaeologists finding her in another 200 years? It would blow their minds finding a wooden tall ship with 'modern' electronic gear. As for the offer to sail on Bounty next year Joe, don't listen to them! It's just another trick of King George and his Red Coats!! ;)
