The one thing that stands out in my memory about Frog were those nice lead weights they used to give you that fit neatly into the noses of aircraft to get the correct balance - much better than trying to stuff the nose of that Airfix Hunter with folded up cement tubes or toothpaste tubes (as I remember Signal was the best for that) - My next oldest brother was the real modeler - his bedroom ceiling looked like the Hold for Heathrow on a
foggy day. BTW Didnt Airfix produce a Bristol Frightner with incredible long carloading ramps???

The Airfix Superfreighter is still available now.

It was originally in Silver City the BUAF

Later it was issued in Cie Air Transport and SABENA...they wanted Silver City but this was early nineties and Silver City wouldn't allow them. Just after it appeared SCA closed.

The reissue is in Cie Air Transport but I have not seen it so I don't know if it's still SABENA as well.

The ramps are the normal car ramps....they were long in real life

They were famous for their range of gliders and rubber powered models

They created rubber models that could take off instead of being thrown to launch.......hence the name.

They also had a range of model kits in I think acetate or some early moulded plastic with some wood and other materials. Pre-WWII, expensive and crude by later standards, they were producing what evolved into the kit industry we know long before anyone else did.

It was a sad day when FROG croaked :roll: ...lets not lose Airfix.

Many of the FROG models can still be got moulded by in Russia by Novo, and Maquette. A few of the smaller aircraft were issued under the name of Remus Playkits, mainly WWII fighters

The Russians did not take the German moulds and Revell issued a few of those.

Revell also issued the Shackleton a while ago but the mould had suffered corrosion, but as they pointed out still worth the issue due to the rarity of the subject.

Wouldn't it be nice to get these all back together somewhere.

It would also be nice to solve one of the greatest mysteries of all time.

Even though there have been theories and explanations as to how the dinosaurs died out.......no one seems to know what happened to the FROG Viscount.

Was rumoured to have gone to New Zealand.........and what about the V bombers?

Red square was not standard but may have been a FROG issue as the catalogue showed Red Square but the models remaind pinstripe in the shops till the end.

It came in three version that I know of. BEA pinstripe, KLM and New Zealand National Airways Corporation.

The Glencoe is a 700 originally made by Hawk
