Re: Bitzer project
The nose and tail I had was actually for the Ensign, but I was mistakenly looking for a twin engined.

Re: Bitzer project
...based on items 80 and 81 in 16-12B being a spare engine holder, in case they ran into one during flight?
Just kidding, Den. If it was me trying to identify images from others, I wouldn't have got any badges.

Re: Bitzer project
Kevin is the latest, and last, correct submission for the FW 189.
It did sort of look like a BV 141 from the side, that's why I omitted the top view.

New one 21-12
Look, it's got roundels of some kind.

Don't know what it is yet. but from the number on the image I see its 2112, time for a link to a great Rush song of the same name.

Our son in law has just gone home. I spent over an hour listening to his explanations of 3/4, 15 time, 13, 12+1, etc. I am very little the wiser.blanston12 wrote: ↑21 Dec 2020, 05:42Don't know what it is yet. but from the number on the image I see its 2112, time for a link to a great Rush song of the same name.

I said that I can understand why musicians want to do this sort of thing, but I don't necessarily like what comes out of this fancy musicianship.

Re: Bitzer project
Deadline for final suggestions on "21-12" is my tomorrow morning, about 15 hours away.
From correspondence and personal extra homework, I'm now convinced that my source book gives the wrong Mk.
I originally thought that it would be quite obscure, but a surprising number of Members have correctly named the aircraft.
Variances in the specific Mk will be ignored, for reasons which will be publicised tomorrow.
Come on, lads & lassies, I've got plenty of badges to issue, and they'll sparkle nicely with your Seasonal party tiaras.

Re: Bitzer project
Congratulations to:
Brian Franklin,
PeteP,
chrispbits,
511Flyer,
Dev One,
AllanL,
Ben,
Who all correctly identified the HAL HJT 16 Kiran.
As far as research goes, it seems that:
Mk I was powered by a RR Viper turbojet, had no guns or hardpoints, and had a small aerial under the nose.
Mk Ia as above, with two hard points on the wings.
Mk II Powered by a Bristol Siddeley Orpheus, resulting in a reshaped outlet, (the outlet is obscured in the photo anyway), four hard points on the wings, two guns in the nose, a fin below the nose, generally described as a yaw stabiliser, but possibly an aerial.
Some images, including photos on the net, ascribe Mk I descriptions to aircraft with the nose fin. My source book calls the photo a Mk II, which I do not believe. Detailed drawings seem hard to come by. I found a reference to a 1975 publication of a cutaway, but I don't have that.
I'm impressed that you all nailed it as a Kiran, and although I'm feeling that the photo depicts a Mk I, I'm giving diamond badges to you all.
Gentlemen, start your pinning on.

Re: Bitzer project
Many thanks to all who have submitted responses - makes it worthwhile, and I've learnt a thing or two in the process.
I'll make this the final one for 2020, to give your minds a rest.
Crude 3-view in its entirety, but WHAT is it?

Your answers can be posted here for a change....and because you got it, here's your Seasonal badge:
