I seem to remember that when a 707 had an engine fall off in flight, DH brought out a half-page newspaper advert featuring the line "We bury our engines in the wing roots, not in French farmers' fields".
My understanding is the burying of engines within wings became less desirable (on civil aircraft at least) once the effects of fatigue resonance became more clearly understood .... of course that wasn't a contributing factor to the early COMET disasters though which have been well discussed elsewhere within this thread.

As for engines comming off aircraft. Both Boeing and Douglas designed their B707/720/C135 and DC8 pylons to detach from these aircraft as the result of extreme stresses (like ground impacts) .... which is mostly happens in these sitations .... however .... in the case of B707 a few occurences have been recorded of engines seperating from these aircraft during encounters with extremly severe turbulence.

OKEY DOKEY .... I'll bring'em on then

I'll get these updated soundpacks over to Leif & Rob ASAP .... after the release of Jen's COMET package. I've got a hell of a lot o HJG work on my plate at the moment (more than I can handle comfortably really .... a very quiet forum at the moment "THANK GOD", but, "OH SO BUSY" behind the scenes there), so please, bear with me ! :)

ohhhh, I am awaiting for the early Comets , too (although the worst crashes occurred here in Italy) .
In the beautiful DM Comets virtual cockpits, I have the elevator fine pitch gauge that is not working, although the wording says it is on "fine" selection . Is this a fake gauge or is mine that is out of order?

Thank you!
