Re: RIAT
After all these years you would have thought they could have set an alternative indoor venue, just in case it was wet! A great shame for all concerned and just another example of 'everything' turning sour in the world at the moment :-(

Think of the money that's been lost. Tickets to be refunded, so no money recuperated. I don't know how finance is broken down at RIAT, but surely a percentage of the ticket sales goes towards the organisational costs.
If I'd bought a ticket, I'd be inclined to not getting a refund and let them keep my money for the trouble.
A great shame indeed. :-(

Be assured that RIAT has significant coporate backing (hence half the flight line being corporate sponsored marquees). As the finance chap said on the BBC:
The decision to cancel the event on Saturday does not affect the future of the show, the finance director of the Air Tattoo has said.
"It can stand the financial impact of losing the whole show if Sunday doesn't take place," David Hyam said.
"There are no long term factors affecting us there."

Well I'm glad that I chose Duxford. Today was fantastic with only the odd bit of rain. I won't bother posting photos up as I've got about 600 photos to sort through

I'm guessing the event has some sort of foul weather insurance against this sort of thing. It's been a bit strange today as visiting aircrew wandering around without the public there, although it has made for an excellent party! Now if I can just get the Typhoon temporary tattoo off my head....

Re: RIAT
Sorry to hear that it was a bust. I hope one year to make RIAT.

Skippy - you better watch out - I see there are Daleks due into Yeovilton on the 10th of august...... Let's hope your victims don't send any intergalactic messages calling for retribution......

Re: RIAT
I just wish the kinds of tagging that were done back in the '60s and '70s were still possible with aircraft returning to their home units regaled in the livery of the country (or base) they visited. I've always wanted to find the pictures of the Vulcan that returned from a Giant Voice exercise in full 2nd Bomb Wing markings and the B-52 that returned to Minot in full RAF livery (don't remember which wing it was painted for), or the various fighters that got new national insignia and patches applied.
I'd always thought it'd be funny for the CAF to slap a "Property of the Commemorative Air Force" over the serial number of every military airplane that showed up at Midland for AirSho each fall. We already have several Navy jets and a couple of Air Force ones we captured, would be nice to have a few modern aircraft helping to pay the bills too.

Re: RIAT
In the 70's and 80's we called it 'Zapping' and most airshow aircraft left for home with an assortment of stickers and stencil painted messages. There was also a brisk trade in swapping of aircrew kit too, the most prized item being the grey leather flying jackets issued to the Luftwaffe.
