I don't think anyone with any MD's have been around our area which is why I'm not seeing them.

Of course MD = Boeing anyway

Last time I took notice it was TriStars, One-Elevens, DC9, 727, MD-80's etc and TWA Pan Am etc:lol:

PeteP will probably be able to tell you the answer - but the quote about "no traffic over Italy" -- occassionally (usually in the wee hours of the morning) we will lose company data blocks in specific ARTCC's this is simply due to the fact that the particular center is backing up its computers and the data feed from them
stops while they are doing it....on our "flighttracker" at work the data block goes into "ghost mode" and it will simply follow the planned route - same thing happens out over the water - the flight ghosts until they make a postion report and then the flight plan route corrects itself. Not being a smartarse -- I sit with three screens of traffic infront of me all day one for each company "division" on 60 inch flat screens in the office , then my own traffic on tracker at my desk.

Thanks for that info. I think the Italy thing on this website is something different though as there are never any details over Italy regardless of time for day etc.

I do listen in to ATC and also this Live Radar but after about ten minutes I'm bored with it.

I find it fascinating to watch the tracks of aircraft out of Heathrow following the SIDs that involve extra miles and considerable changes of direction - not just take off and head north. But then I've sent 40 years listening to ATC as a "hobby". I'll be mixing the website and listening to ATC to figure out who's doing what.

If you zoom out to see the world coverage, it gives a clue as to why - it depends on the locations of individuals with the necessary hardware to receive and decode the information who then pool it into the web site. Bear in mind it will be "line of sight".
And I did "see" a BAe146 heading east from Manchester yesterday.

Enjoyed some armchair spotting this afternoon - Mexicana and EasyJet were overflying around the same time- the aircraft seen had light blue engines which suggested not EasyJet. A quick check showed that this was a Mexicana Boeing 767 http://www.airliners.net/photo/Mexicana ... 1618698/M/ Last time I saw Mexicana was a Boeing 727 in the Aztec livery.

Very interesting. Today there is no apparent delay - I tracked BA 248 from Rio on arrival just now , and saw it disappear off the radar on landing on 09L at Heathrow at 1243, and it is shown as having arrived at 1242 . Perhaps not as secure as I thought
