If some of the spuds served up on board were grown in Ireland would that have made it a joint Anglo irish flight?

Paul, the figure that Gary quoted is definitively a bit high for a garden ornament. If you're serious about this then there are a few things you might consider:
- Make sure that you've got a place to put it, get any council problems out of the way first.
- See if you can get transportation and crane hire sponsored by the relevant companies. I know Brooklands has often managed to get stuff transported for a decent price but they've got the needed contacts already, you'd be starting from scratch I assume.
- Find friends that are handy with tools (really handy, not just knowing the difference between a hammer and a saw!) and see if you can contribute some labour to the task.

The last two points are heavily dependant on Gary willing to go along with this of course. The work will be done in his yard, by his men (mostly) so if he is not happy with the people/equipment/etc. that you come up with then he may say no. If anything goes wrong (and we're talking about awkward and heavy bits here) it is his name on the line. You might be able to get a lower price this way though.

As much as I'd like to see any part of a VC10 preserved, are you sure that you wouldn't rather go for this:

Seriously though...I know dimensions are quoted but sometimes it's still not clear just how big some things are. The height and weight will be an issue.
