Think you've your wires crossed mate. If its a gift it doesn't seem to be subject to tax at all. There is a import duty allowance of £125 (from memory) and £135 if you are importing the goods in person.

The fees are made up from import duty and Tax. There is also additional duty on cigarettes / booze and the like.

They are going to change the "Day Dial" to English for me too without affecting the warranty, so we'll see how things progress and I'll let you all know.

I even like it with the days in Kanji. I think I'd be tempted to keep that - or maybe not

And the price allows for plenty of taxes and duties without making it over-priced. It's chunky, yet elegant and has a very nice bracelet. Very nice indeed.

I had debated about leaving the days dial in kanji. I liked it, and then I thought better of it and asked if it was changeable. Then I liked it again, then he said he was happy to flip it over to English, then I thought English was best. And now I don't know, but its too late

I do like that Dave, very nice indeed. The 4R36 movement in the one I've ordered can loose between 20 - 40 seconds a day which I can live with. The 6R15 or 6R20 movements in the more expensive watches are much more accurate, but there's always a trade off. If I win the lottery on Saturday I'll treat myself to a Grand Seiko (Several thousand bounds worth)

My strap is black leather with black stitching (rather than white stitching) and it keeps great time. In between the clocks going forward/back.. I've never had to reset the minute To be honest, I much prefer the Revue Thommen 'Airspeed' but I can't be doing with it's inaccuracy. For me, if a watch doesn't tell the correct time, it's pointless wearing it The last 'automatic' I bought was a Seiko Chronograph in Hong Kong (from a dealer wearing a Timex!!!) Christmas '74 and it worked ok for a while but started going wobbly so I gave it to my brother-in-law. It worked fine on him and he wore it for donkeys years. In fact, it may still be going now Must be something about me and automatics. Perhaps I'm just too active

I guess I'm just not wanting to spend a lot of money on another quartz after what happened to my last one

The one Ian sent me is a Japanese Quartz, one of the last were the whole watch was actually made in Japan, all newer Seiko quartz and Kinetics are cased in China with Japanese movements. And while quartz are definitely better time keepers, I'll be safe in the knowledge that should all electric circuits ever get wiped out, I'll still be able to tell the time

Anyway, just had confirmation email from Japan Post that its shipped, complete with tracking number! Now that's what I call quick service!

Reminds me of when my sister bought me a Seiko Watch when she was in Japan with B.O.A.C. for my 21st birthday, whenever that was Unfortunately years later I somehow lost it!!
