I think I've found the rub hidden in the v2.1 Photo html file..
•If you have any earlier version of Scotflight for FSX (Standard or Photo, including "Highlands & Islands"), please uninstall this prior to installing V2.1.
Either I didn't read the instructions (or carry them out correctly) or v2.1 Photo didn't replace all the ones uninstalled in the instruction above. As I've written, that instruction is in the v2.1 Photo html readme so it must refer to removing previous versions 'before' installing v2.1 photo.. not any other v2.1 if there was one. The airfields shown in the readme I have but it doesn't show any of the Westray's and a few more I don't have.

Let's face it.. £35 isn't exactly an 'upgrade' price is it. It's tantamount to taking the pennies off a dead mans eyes 8)

Certainly agree with you there, Dave. Maybe that's his intent - if you want v3 photo, you pay full price?

I'm a bit baffled by you saying that H&I isn't included, though. Over the years, I've run lots of Air Hauler companies in the area from Wick northwards. There are lots of very nice airfields and refineries in Orkney and Shetland, all covered in v2.1 (which I got as a free upgrade to v1.2, after mailing Iain, who sent me a link and a code).

My earlier comments are a bit harsh - he didn't remove the products completely, just made it so that you can only purchase them from his site, unless he switched to someone else as well. All the links I had for products and updating at Flightsim Pilot Shop are dud now and his stuff isn't listed at all.

That's up to him, I guess, but it would have been nice to have had some kind of announcement or notification about it.

The volume numbers are for the GenX photo scenery and purely so that buyers can see what falls into which volume area. You get all of the marked aerodromes in v3.

I'm pretty sure now that I shouldn't have uninstalled any of the previous versions even though the readme instructs you do so.. that's how I read it anyway. All the above I have but as I said before.. there are gaps between the above and what was present in vol1/vol2 :( I can see the only way out is to uninstall the lot.. get keys for vol 1 and 2 from Scotflight and put it all back again.. without uninstalling previous versions prior to installing 2.1 photo! It still means I can't use GenXvol8 without coughing up but at least I should end up with all the airfields contained in the parts I have.

EDIT: Here's the blurb from the 2.1 photo rtf document which clearly states if you have any previous Scotflight version, you should uninstall it..
This product is intended for users of Microsoft FSX and Horizon’s VFR Generation X: V4 - Scotland: The Western Isles.
It adds scenery objects to airports and landmarks all across Scotland; in the Western Isles, these are compatible with the Horizon photo scenery. Users without any photoscenery should use Scotflight for FSX Standard instead.
If you have ANY previous version of Scotflight for FSX, you should uninstall this (excluding the RAF Collection) before installing this product.
I honestly can't see what I've done wrong :dunno: I'll have to email them for clarification.

OK.. I think I've pretty much done this to death now. 8)

Having uninstalled everything ane re-installed in order of what I have (v1 to v1.2 to v2.0 'upgrade' to v2.1 photo).. what I have is all I'm gonna have unless I upgrade to v3 Photo. The Westray's were included in v2.2 and I guess, other tiddlers were added through v2.3, 2.4, 2.5. None of the updates/upgrades after v2.1 (my version) are available.. it's v3 or nowt :( Fortunately, I can still fly the whole kit and kaboodle in FS9 8)

Oh.. and none of the above required keys either :dunno:

I'm pretty sure that activation codes were only introduced from v2. I didn't have one for v1 or 1.2.

When I just installed v2.1 over the top of v1.2 without uninstalling first, it screwed things up completely (I didn't rtfm before I installed, tut, tut). The way I realised it was messed up was that the traffic at Sumburgh was stopped half way across the runway threshold instead of at the road/runway junction. That became the method I used from that point on, to see if I'd installed it properly. Go to Sumburgh, look at the road traffic. It works :)

Now I don't bother with v1 at all - just install v2.1 and that's it.

I was sure that he included at least rudimentary improvements for EGPF and EGPH (Glasgow and Edinburgh) in 1 and 2, but for 3 he states that they are only improved for the photo version :dunno:

I think I'm going to have to have a look and see. I am about to start a VFR Tour of all the VFR Airfields from UK2K and the Scotflight stuff, too, but it would take a while to get round all the airfields and see what's changed.

Full details, log etc on my website ;)

Here's the tour flight list:

Probably take all year, and we want to know a bit sooner than that, I think.

Hi JD :hello:

The instructions are pretty straight forward (believe it or not). I installed v1 this morning (having dragged the lot off) and when I tried to put v1.2 on, it said that v1 was installed and did I want 1.2 to uninstall the previous version (Recommended) so I said yes. It uninstalled v1 then I ran the installer again and it put on v1.2. V2 simply installed over v1.2.. in fact I had to make sure I was at v1.2 before running the v2 install. To put v2.1 photo on.. you have to uninstall previous versions. I don't know if there was a 'straight' v2.1 upgrade or if v2.1 photo was IT. I'm not sure what came in v2.2.. I missed it but I'm presuming that as well as the aforementioned airfields I don't have, it was made compatible with GenX vol5. The release blurb for v2.3 is as follows:
Following the release of Playsims photoscenery Volume 8 covering Southern Scotland, we have now released Scotflight FSX Photo V.23 to make the Scotflight scenery compatible with the new photoscenery (in addition to Vols 4 and 5 covering the Scottish islands, already released).

As well as many of the landmarks included in previous versions, V2.3 includes Glasgow, Edinburgh and Prestwick airports, trees around the various landmarks and airports (placed to fit the photoscenery) and new custom ships on the Clyde and Forth..

I didn't get v2.3 because I didn't have GenX vol8 and I already used EDI/GLA Xtreme. Prestwick.. I use a freeware version.

Version 2.4 gave the following:
This product is intended for users of Microsoft FSX with Playsim’s VFR Generation X: V4 - Scotland: The Western Isles and Playsim’s VFR Generation X: V5 - Scotland: Orkney & Shetland Isles and Playsim’s VFR Generation X: V6 - Scotland North and Playsim’s VFR Generation X: V8 - Scotland South.
It adds scenery objects to airports and landmarks all across Scotland; in the areas covered by the photoscenery, these are compatible with the photo scenery. Users without any photoscenery should use Scotflight for FSX Standard instead.
If you have ANY previous version of Scotflight for FSX, you should uninstall this (excluding the RAF Collection) before installing this product..

Again.. no need for me to get this update as at the time, I only had GenX v4. All this appears to do is give airports and landmarks in the photo areas mentioned (all of them except vol7) and, I presume, give 'non-photo' airfields and landmarks in the vol7 area.

I've no idea what came out in v2.5.. I didn't even know one existed until yesterday! 8) At a guess.. it fills the hole left by 2.4 and gives coverage in GenX vol7 :dunno: As you can't get these updates anymore, I'll probably never know *-) What does v3 give that v2.5 (or later) doesn't :dunno: I'm guessing it's minimal as the upgrade from v2.5 to v3 is a mere tenner. My main point is that the crucial one for me appears to have been 2.2 which I completely missed. Had I got 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 and finally v3.. that little lot would have cost, for arguments sake, £50 but what would be the point if you didn't have the GenX areas they updated *-) Looking at it like this, I suppose £35 to upgrade from v2.1 photo to v3 photo IS a saving but having spoken to Ben about v3, he says it didn't ask which GenX areas he had nor did it confirm which GenX compatible scenery it had installed. It must know which areas are photo covered and which aren't.. musn't it :dunno:

I dunno. This whole thing has left me old and tired. All I can say is good luck with what you find
