The best way to use the Cleveland is slog away until you can move up. Cleveland, even though they've tried to fix it somewhat, is the most underpowered CA of any level. It's low-velocity, small caliber main guns, while supplanted by number, still have serious difficulty with same-level ships. Your best bet is to load up HE shells, get in CLOSE (under 5km) and use your superior rate of fire to try to burn down your opponent. Beyond that, get into the Pensacola as quickly as possible. It's an upgraded Cleveland that is much more reasonable of an opponent.

Think someone has their Diana' and Aurora's mixed up, that looks like an Arethusa class light cruiser ; there wasn't a Diana in that class (my late grand-dad was on HMS Phaeton at Jutland)-- beautiful detailing though.

Now we're looking at the detail.. yes.. that looks 'more like' Aurora and Arethusa than Diana. Aurora and Arethusa had a fatter middle stack. Diana didn't have a middle stack
Still.. it IS a nice looking model

The detail on all the WoW ships is pretty good - all we need now is to populate the ships with little sailors and it will be superb. And can I have some of these little sailors as active lookouts?
Regarding the Cleveland - I'm 23,000 XP from her at the moment so I expect her to be well run-in by the time I get hold of her Paul. Oddly the blurb describes her as one of the best balanced cruisers of the war - I know I tend to avoid going head-to-head with one when bobbing about in the Omaha.
I confess to being a bit confused by the Diana/Aurora/Arethusa debate - did the Russians name their ships in this way or did they borrow ours?

That's a very good point Chris. The Diana featured is Russian which would explain why it doesn't look like HMS Diana

I know!! I assumed it was supposed to be HMS Diana for that very reason
Why do you have to buy that old junk. HMS Belfast looks nice.

But Dave, its a cruiser, not a junk. They haven't started modelling the Chinese navy yet. ( rimshot )
Glad we got the 'HMS' Diana mix-up resolved. You can buy the
Aurora too - the armament differs slightly from the
Diana.
Chris T - thanks for the tips for the Cleveland class. I will bear your advice in mind. Last night a destroyer got a little too close to me and was smothered by both primary and secondary turrets, but it was a rare victory. I do tend to charge in headlong, and that usually proves my undoing when three enemy battleships come round the corner and my own team has gone off elsewhere. A little more conservative play might be in order, I think.
Chris H - I was starting to get the hang of the Omaha right towards the end - basically she's good in pursuit, with all those forward facing guns and so presents a small silhouette. When they turn to face you - run away bravely. It worked for the most part and I was starting to rack up some good scores in her.

I always run away Paul - not necessarily bravely - but I do run away. Gone are the days when I'd just plough on regardless. Mind you I thought I was doing okay the other day until I was reduced from almost 100% to ashes by two rounds from a Colorado (whilst running away).

I know the feeling Chris, and all too well.
I'm enjoying the Japanese cruiser Kuma at the moment - it a nice balance of capabilities and sets enemy ships on fire very easily, or so it seems. I've certainly had more success with it than the other free ships.
By the way, Chris H and Chris T - what are your game names ? It'd be fun if we came across each other at some point. My name is 'Pametrada'.
