The livery was almost the same as that already in use on the V 700. The tail was different...But at the time the V.812 were purchased Channel were talking to Continental who was hoping to go trans Altlantic and do a deal with Channel to fly the pax in Europe.

So the Viscounts were bought and the basic fuse livery retained as it was almost the same anyway except for the nose. The deal never passed the idea stage but the livery remained....but it was similar in any case.

But is was not a cheap copy as such.

Channel did pinch the earlier green livery from West African and they added the Riddle fin flash they liked from the DC 4

BAF copied the F-27 Maritrime hoops livery and later adopted the Boeing livery which came about when they were talking to boeing about 747's.

TDA adopted Airbus house colours by agreement but poor old Channel golden gets singled out as a copy.

A lot of British Airlines had what was almost a BEA livery sometimes in blue (Jersey Airlines) and sometimes in Green (Channel) sometimes in red.

Not all these worked as associates of BEA

If you compare the Channel and Continental there are a lot of differences.
