lol
I hear you on that
one time I made a goal to fly the 747 from san fransico to dallas and then to atlanta in real time
I crashed on final to atlanta forgtting to reset my altimeter
once the inevitable doom was realized I was hard on the controls and I almost got it back together
I was trying so hard my side hurt grunting and groaning as if doing so might make the difference.
Unfortunattly The old adage
"God takes care of dummies and babies"
(
or is it drunks and babies )I can't remember
didn't ring true
unfornuatly again .......the adage
"ask not for whom the bell tolls, for it tolls for thee"
...........did :crying:

and then I set out to do it again
flying heavys is no task to be taken Lightly

Many a time I have done what I thought to be the perfect flight and on final approach with poor vis flying manual and capturing the R/W lights I
then started to congratulate myself........ Oooops!!.........#*@%#!!!!! Need I say anymore? :crying:

2 to 1 for 2D??
I am amazed!!
I have not flown in 2D in a year or more!!
I have two hat switches for eye point and I spend half my time looking
around, like real flying!! There are no "lanes" in the sky, in the real
world you have to keep an eye out all the time!! Every time I fly real
world, the ATC is always asking about "traffic in sight"!!
A lot of tai-draggers you need to stick you head out the window
to see where you are going and what's in front of you, this is
hard to do in 2d!!

I must admit I am really surprised at the results of the poll so far. Seems most simmers are in favour of the 2D up to now. Weird as I'm sure a heck of a lot of work goes into VC's. Probably more than 2D's I would say. But perhaps the Mod's will correct me on that one though.
Still, its early days yet. Perhaps all the VC nuts are at work and a flurry of them will cast their votes later..

90% of the time an aircraft has to have both a good VC and 2D panel before I will keep it. I spend most of the time in the VC but when its time to start fiddling with the radio's and autopilot, or general IFR task I will switch to the 2D panel.

I've always flown 2D as it's just too hard to move around a VC.
I haven't got Track IR or a hat swith thingy on my joystick though.
I'm a creature of habit too...

I can't vote on this. It all depends on what mood I am in. Some months I will fly nothing but VC, and then go back to 2D for a few months. At the moment I am in VC mode, especially with Ricks HS 748, and of course DM's pocket rocket 1-11. But then I fly the Trident for a bit and use the 2D. Ok I will vote VC, but it's subject to change!

Well I'm a VC convert, but still prefer to make use of some 2D popups when I'm in VC mode, so I may be counted as a half & half.
I'm hoping that in FSX main 2D panels will not be needed. That's assuming they have sorted the refresh rate issue in the new sim!
So long as they get it right, I can't see why the VC can't make the main 2D panel redundant. It would be nice to keep 2D for optional popup windows though, autopilots & radios etc.
There is also this annoying problem with 2D panels and the multitude of different aspect ratios (is that the right term) of flat panel screens these days. My Dad has got one and 2D panels look rubbish because it has strange dimensions compared to a regular CRT.
And it can't be all that long until we have those 3D goggle things instead of TrackIR. I never went for TrackIR in the end, but I'll be up for 3D goggle things!!
VC for me.

I'll only get the VR goggles when they bundle it with a 3D space controller as well (meaning gloves). I won't fly with VR goggles until I can reach out and throw the switch, turn the nob, move the throttles, etc., because it's too hard to try and watch what you're doing on the goggles while you're also moving the mouse to throw the switches and gripping a throttle to fly the plane, and still having to use the keyboard on occasion. It's just like I won't go to VR goggles until I can get a reasonably priced weapon controller (looks like a rifle or other similar gun) for the first-person shooters I play. Kinda hard to see what key you're pressing on the keyboard with your eyes covered by the goggles. Much easier to sit (or stand) with what looks and feels like a gun in your hands with the required buttons on them and the VR headset.

DM..
I don't know how the latest breed of 3D glasses work but the original ones I had from EDimensional didn't really work. I'm sure they've come on in leaps and bounds but at that time.. they didn't give you positional movement as with TrackIR so to see around the cockpit, you still had to navigate with either your mouse or POV. What the 3D glasses do (did) is actually make the switches stand out.. in 3D. Unless they've incorporated movement too.. you're still stuck with a POV/mouse

Now.. being a well-heeled programmer.. I can see you sitting down with your Roy Orbison look-alikes on PLUS your baseball hat with TrackIR4
