Er, yes and no :worried:

Only had time for a quick look and picked an HJG 707 texture to convert. Took me half an hour to figure out that despite the texture folder being 25Mb it was already DXT3 16bit :-( So when I'd finished ... it was still 25 Mb

Tomorrow I'll try ... wait for it ... Yes! An Invicta Vanguard!

Cheers

'tis easy to tell Ian :worried:

Open the texture folder and view in thumbnails

If it has no thumbnail it is DXT compressed already, if there is a preview thumbnail it's 32 bit :)

Thanks, Garry.

Oh well, why put off until tomorrow etc etc

Is this the one you had in mind? Damn good paint job - wonder who did that? Image

I even converted the textures to DXT3! The Viscounts are definitely next in line for the treatment. What would you suggest? Guernsey, BA RT and Cambrian?

I don't have my texture folder to show thumbnails but that is certainly an easy way to see what the format is. Another way is double click on a texture and if windows viewer says 'Drawing Failed' it's dxt3 :) Some models have a mixture.. 32bit for the fuse and DXT3 for the wings so there are still savings to be made ;-)

Also Ian.. when you open a texture up in DXTBmp, it will tell you what format it's in on the top line of the window :)

Ian re Viscounts

Guernsey and the BAF ones as well as the BA or though maybe not many BA by then??.possibly none on usual routes by that time. Not sure if Cambran were into Manchester much as that was BEA and they were big in Liverpool where BEA had pulled out and left Cambrian with those Irish sea routes and other UK form there

Apart form the CI and LHR you tended not to get BKS Cambrian and BEA at the same airport as the subsiduries operated where BEA didn't want to.

Some bloke did a variety of BAF paints :) ...some of which are in the VA package and other can be found at the pond

Thanks for all that very useful info, Dave and Garry. It's very kind of you both to spend time explaining all this. I'm learning a hell of a lot that I didn't know about FS in trying to put this project together. It's fascinating stuff and I hope others are benefiting from it as well. It's a pity I can't show you the moving traffic at MAN, it's really coming to life and the mixture of jets and props gives it a totally different atmosphere to Kai Tak.

Hmmm - pretty handy bloke to have around, I'd say! So - looks like BAF and Guernsey for the Viscounts then. I'll fit it in between MotoGP and cooking a roast chicken tomorrow!

I thank you for the icon link you sent me yonks ago but resisted using them as they're more you than me if you see what I mean. I EXPECT you to come up with one for a given situation which keeps it kinda unique. I wouldn't laugh at mine but I do when you post.. the poor chicken being no exception

Keep the ball rolling mate. We'll have you painting next
