Hi Ian..

I have a chart somewhere in one of my old Vickers publications that shows a projected distance/altitude graph though how accurate it would be against the model is anyones guess as the real aircraft was only in production and not in service at the time  I've tested various altitudes on VA flights and found that going high.. say FL250 is a pointless exercise for something like LHR-Munich. While I might have saved the odd minute or so, I used slightly more fuel getting to alt though at the end of both flights.. the figures were similar. I'll see if I can find that chart today and post it here ;-) I see around 254KIAS at FL183 but my groundspeed will be a fair bit less than up with the gods :)

Hi Dave,

That chart sounds like a good starting point. I've got to do the return leg at some point so I'll drop a bit lower and see how it goes.

Hi Ian..

I can't find exactly what I'm looking for but THIS should give you a good idea for best speeds (groundspeeds) at MAUW ;-) Right click and save as if you want the hard copy :)

Hi Ian,
I'm suprised you managed to coax the old girl up to FL270, in real life we rarely went above FL230!.

Still, glad you're enjoying handling a real classic.

Robbie.

Hi Robbie,

It was a long climb, and not at full weight! Thanks for the tip about the normal max altitude, I shall keep that in mind. I've set fl200 for the return, should be a bit easier. :) But, yes, it is a lot of fun, this aircraft.
