Don't quite see where you're coming from there? What I was eluding to is that had the FSTA contract been awarded to the rival consortium, yet another RAF tanker/transport fleet would be based around a fleet of well used ex-civilian airframes - in this case ex-BA 767s, as opposed to the brand new A330s being delivered.

How about this for a scam - we all "enlist" for the day, then pay to leave the RAF after we've had our jolly on the VC10? I'm sure the lawyers and insurers would have a screaming fit but if we're enlisted, we're not civvies!

Alternatively, we arrange to be held hostage and you have to put on a rescue flight?

Yes mate.. and I still consider myself very lucky indeed.. privileged is a better word. An excellent day leaving memories I will always cherish The most difficult thing of all is looking back at the shots and seeing they're from 2005 Where the heck have those 5 years gone

Yeh, I still have that copy of 'PC Pilot' with you Dave, and the other Dave flying the sim. How did they let you up in the real thing - I thought insurance, etc would be a problem? And was it a local (training) flight?
