You haven't been following this topic, have you Brian?
I guess that I'll have to incorporate it into the heading each time - Replies via PM please.

The reason is that on account of time zones, some are hours ahead of others.

Well, that was one of the shortest-lived in a while!
According to the title, it is a Gloster Meteor NF12.
Under the circumstances, diamond awards to Brian (Fly Texas), Mick (woody901), PeteP, Eric (Tomliner), Den (511Flyer), and Ben...and Keith. But I have to draw the line there. If anyone can differentiate between an NF11 and a 12, from the images supplied, I'll give you a bar to go with the "O" badge.

I would have gone for the NF11 mostly due to the lights in the nosewheel cover. Surviving NF12s do not seem to have them but maybe it was an optional extra. The long hooter, bird cage canopy and lack of engine gubbins in the fuselage were main giveaways.

When I was flying Chipmunks from Woodvale in the Cadets back in the late 60s, we occasionally had to clear off above about 2,000 ft to clear the area for returning Meteors (TT20s?) flown by a CAACU unit. They operate with gunners in North Wales and always seemed to be returning on minimum fuel.

Please sir, I can. The radar fit gives it away. The NF 11 had the old wartime AI 10.


As you can see, the scanner and associated 'black boxes' are very different from those of the APS-21 system fitted to the NF 12.


It's very kind of you to offer a bar but, as I'm in enforced teetotalism these days, I'll have to pass and just bask in the glory of being a smart*r*e.

By the way, why assume Keith meant the NF11 when he said he was one mark out - he might have thought it was an NF 13.
