Although I had expected Austers to have a pitot heater by default (being British), I found no sign of one on any of them - then it occured to me - they had very little/none in the way of electrical power, so that switch hasn't been fitted to my builds.
I try and copy the original panels as closely as I can within the limitations of FlightSim, bowing to popular demand only with items like the G.P.S. and a comms radio for modern-day flying. I had a request for the addition of an artificial horizon indicator recently - 'what for ?' I replied - 'you've got a real one straight in front of you' :o .

Thanks Daves and Leif...Well I seem to remember that the pitot head on the one I flew in NZ was that very basic two thin bent tubes type and I don't suppose you can get a heating element in there anyway! Fortunately the FS Shifted H toggle works fine and melts the ice. I have to say that the limited panel climb up through cloud took me back to all that dreadful practicing that we had to do in the RAF with the AH covered up...The worst bit was when the instructor made you cover your goggles while he flung the aircraft into some ghastly "Unusual Position" and then just said "OK you have control" and you had to recover ASP. The most horrid instances of this was in those aeroplanes that had the "Two Stage Amber" system which meant that literally the only thing you could see through the goggles was the luminous hands and numbers on the instruments...Everything else was pitch black...Ugh! Torture!

Anyway, I'll get away today I think and try to get as far as that unmarked strip that I found down from Haines...I'll park on that nice pontoon nearby :flying:

Yes, I was thinking of incorporating the orange panels into the T7 trainer which had them, but thought better of it - always having the safety and sanity of users in mind.

Now the chaps at Marine Services have finished tinkering with my Auster floatplane, I'm setting off on a low slow cruise along the Alaskan coast and into Washington State to just admire the scenery.

Not the best weather for scenic cruising...

...but we are working our way along the coast...

Day Three of my floatplane cruise...We go a bit further today on our way along the Alaskan coast...

Just airborne out of Excursion Inlet and bound for a place called Craig with a possible stop for fuel.

Airborne and climbing away from a favourite stopping place...It is soo pretty!

Well you have to be keen Jim...I just keep adding here and those who get bored with these things will never notice

Day Four of my floatplane cruise...This is a very long day from Craig with a stop for a rest and lunch at Port Hardy...And then on to Rosario to stopover for a couple of nights:-
