I'm sure there are some who will read that and think "WTF! he should have done it this way, or that way". As I said, there are many, many ways to get the same result. :)

Well chaps, after spending more time than I'd care to admit to (with Mrs W in the room) I'm going to try a very different approach.... :worried:

OK, so its a bit of a cheat... but....
skptower.PNG

Sketchup!

Now I'm not quite there yet. I've run it through MCX and while its seems OK it doesn't show in the sim, but I think that's down to my selecting some incorrect options in MCX. It needs more work, but I feel like I've achieved more in the past two hours than in the past 2 weeks

Cheating is good.. wot you on about

It should work ok mate. Save the mdl in MCX having converted the textures to dds then add it (the mdl) to a library.. either an existing one or it's own.. it doesn't really matter. Then place the library into (for example) addon scenery/scenery and the textures in (for example) addon scenery/texture. Fly to where you want it to go then open IS.. choose the library you put it in.. select the model then place it.

When you say it's not showing in the sim.. can't you see it in the library or are you placing it and it's disappearing? I had the 'disappearing act' happen when I was adding stuff to Old Warden until I put the bgl into the corresponding UK2K VFR folder. Not sure why it wouldn't work before (I could see the models I'd placed but when I reopened the sim, they'd gone) :-O

Hi mate, that wasn't very clear was it

I've converted the textures to dds, created the bgl, added the bgl to the libraries in IS etc, but when i got to place it, there's nothing there, its as though its transparent. I've cocked something up with MCX for sure, but brain is fried now. Either way, sketchup seems to be an easier way to do basic buildings for me. Pick the texture, point to the face of the poly and simply bucket fill with that texture. Now having said all that, if it wont show in the sim its all for nothing, but reasonably confident i can get it sorted. :)

Ah.. so you've made the object using Sketchup.. or have I misunderstood that too *-) :worried: That's something I've not tried but.. if you see the object in MCX, you're not far off.

Question.. how did you add the bgl to a library?? You add mdl's to libraries, not bgl's as far as I'm aware :dunno:

I know.. it's late
