Thanks, Dave!

I've erased the 'shadow' layer on the upper nose section part (and the nose's sides as well) and only kept the highlights for the horizontal stabilizer's parts (oddly enough, the upper nose and the hstab reside in the same texture file). The stock highlights seem a little overdone to me for a non-white nose, and I failed in tuning the nose's highlights layer down to match the rest of the nose's textures.

Cheers,
Markus.

Yep, tried that but it still looked odd. Got frustrated and filled both the front fus and nose maps solid red, no shading or shadows etc. Still wasn't right. :wall: Eventually spotted a rogue bump map in my texture folder (I'd copied the BOAC scheme folder as a base). Turned out the alpha channel of that was a slightly different shade compared to the fuselage bump map. 8) Removed that and all is now good.
Think I need a :guinn:

Argh - that's mean!
I'm still not happy with the wing roots and fuselage belly section (file Dove_ExteriorC_t.dds):
Although I've already checked the bumps and specs (and their alphas) too, those parts come out some more shiny than the rest, at least in sunlight.
Workaround for me: Not turning the Dove's belly into the sunshine...

Cheers,
Markus.

Yes, they definitely look better viewed from the out of sun side. You don't get the annoying over-bright rudder either 8)

If you're considering buying with a view to throwing paints at it.. I'll point out that the rudder is on a different map to the fin. This in itself over complicates matters more than is necessary but aside from that.. there is a disparity with either the rudder map itself or the model and the fin. For example.. the blue line you see on the HMS HERON paint was first done on the fin then the same blue line dragged across to the rudder map. So far so good?? Well, no. When it hits the rudder map, the size changes slightly so I had to spend an inordinate amount of time not only getting the lines to line-up but to be the same size. You can imagine how much fun this is with text. Type HMS HERON on the fin map.. drag it over to the rudder map and it changes size :wall: You could do it the other way round of course but the end result would be the same. I can't get HMS HERON on the LH side to look right no matter what I do so until such time as I retire and have nothing better to do.. it will remain unfinished and unreleased.
Much of the detail you see on the paints is missing from the PK.. on the wings in particular. I also note the AE under the left wing is missing. There's a fair amount of detail that could be questioned but like DG.. I still like the model.

Gawd no, I wont be attempting a repaint of this one if I get it. If you guys are finding it difficult, there's no hope for me. It was DG's British Eagle repaint that triggered my enquiry, I suppose. British Eagle was the first airline I ever flew with - in fact, the first flight of my life. It was a Britannia ( quite possibly Duxford's G-AOVT from what I've found out so far ) rather than a Dove, but I have a soft spot for anything connected with B.E. That and the other paints shown in this thread are 'selling' the model to me, but I'm still concerned about the trim issue. I'll wait for news on that. ;)

Whichever way you look at it mate.. the Dove/Devon is a keeper despite it's initial release faults. If JF/AH choose to do nothing about the FD, then I'm happy to plod along with the FS9 FD which works well. If you're that unsure.. I'm sure it'll appear discounted in the future. I downloaded the Tonka Demo version the other day in it's latest SP format to see if it ran any better on my rig. Truth is.. it doesn't. However.. a few days later, I got an email from JF saying that as I'd downloaded the Demo.. I could have the full version for around a tenner off. Sadly.. I've had to decline.

One other problem that's been spotted (on an AVSIM thread) is that four of the sound files (ms_starter_left, xms_starter_left, ms_starter_right & xms_starter_right) are missing from the install. I've solved this on my system with a graft of files from the Musica pack on the Pond... It's been logged at JF too, I believe.

I've dropped Gary Jones' Dove sound pack in mine. :)
Come to think of it, there's not much left I haven't tweaked or replaced. :worried:
