I'm still enjoying this, even though I'm crap at it. I'm up to the Emerald in the R.N. cruisers, the Karlsruhe in the German cruisers, Aoba in the Japanese line, and still on the Cleveland in the USN. The most-fun ships so far have been the USS St Louis, which is slow moving, but can hand it out as well as take it, and the German Dresden, which has a rate of fire only marginally slower than a Vicker's machine gun - a real destroyer destroyer. Had a dabble with the German battleship Nassau but dropped it after a couple of disastrous battles. I still give the Mikasa an outing occasionally, but it's really the R.N. battleships that I'm interested in, as and when they come.

As for the new French cruisers, I've got the Jurien, but the French tech tree is probably not one I want to spend any time or effort on.

Hi Paul, I haven't touched WoWS for weeks - day job has been more than a bit hectic of late. I quite like the look of the French fleet - paper boats with big guns; seems a continuation of their Napoleonic days. Happy to give them a go to level 6.

Paul, I'm getting stuck in to the French fleet. Up to Friant and having fun. Not a bad little ship - good and accurate guns but slow traverse and reload times. As with the RN fleet the most fun to be had was with the first ship in the line.

Chris, thanks for that - I might try the Friant myself. I'm only about 800 XP away from it. The trouble is that playing so many different ships dilutes my efforts to move up any one particular tech tree. I really must concentrate on one or two - but which ones ? And what am I going to do when the R.N. battleships come out ? Roll on retirement in November !

You'll get bored. There's only so much WoW you can stand! I note that there's an attempt to lure me back to World of Tanks as they've said that a number of issues (namely getting blown up too quickly) have been fixed. Might give that a go sometime soon(ish).

 Yep, I know - I'll get bored. In the end, no matter which ship you use, it's still the same game. There'll be plenty of other things to do, however, including improving my guitar playing, and writing the novel I've been 'researching' for the last 40 years  . Anyway, yesterday, I bought the premium tier III battleship König Albert , as it was less that nine quid. It's guns have a high muzzle velocity, and I'm finding I'm leading the target too much, but on the odd occasion I did land a shot, they certainly caused some damage. She's a more entertaining introduction to battleship combat than the stock vessels.

World of Tanks ? It looks good, but I'm not tempted - yet. ;)

Hello shipmates - I just HAD to post these. I was using the Konig Albert again this afternoon and did rather well. Okay, some of the sinkings were just a case of putting them out of their misery after others had done most of the damage, but finishing off five of them, including three Nassau-class BBs, was very satisfying indeed.

I'm very glad I bought the Konig Albert while it was available. Its armour is as tough as it gets, and the guns are very accurate. Downside - poor turret rotation rate, slow through the water, and takes a while to turn. You have to think out where you're going to go on the map well in advance, to keep the turrets pointing in the right direction for as long as possible. Here she is:

Stay tuned for next exciting sea battles !!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought the Belfast this weekend - couldn't resist it. I've also won 24 hours of premium time as a result of the ranked battles season, so here she is pictured at night in drydock - you only get the drydock 'port' during premium time, or by expending doubloons. Of course, none of this is going to mean anything to people who don't play the game, but hey, it's keeping me off the streets.
