Yup it's the color I remember when she was bringing our mail on the Ark.

Darn it.. my last post has disappeared!! Anyway.. I reckon that T&L COD example is showing signs of having lived outside for some time and has faded as a result. With a bit of imagination, could it be the same colour as the Wessex?? OK.. the Wessex is shot indoors and with a flash which is never ideal but it's not faded. Pull your way through the flash and overhead lighting and I reckon it's there :) I think Steve is going for something around this area anyway which.. in the complete absence of a good reference shot, is the best we can hope for. ;-)

While I think we are decided on the colour dilemma now, here are a couple of interesting links showing some nice model COD Gannets, including their colour finishes. The latter confirms the RAF Blue/Grey scheme, but you'll see that the modeller mixed his colour rather than using an existing Humbrol or other dedicated colour for it -resulting in a nice finish reminiscent of Dave's interior-shot Wessex. So expect something along those lines for my repaints!

What great models Steve!! ;-) See how the colour changes with variations of light and shade on that big model :o

One thing I've learned from this exercise is not to trust all you see in Warpaint publications and it's a bit of a shock to the system as I'd always considered them defacto. You live and learn ;-)

I've got to chuckle, after 6 pages and about 5 reseachers we have a colour for the COD Gannet, I wonder if Ito san spent any more than 20 minutes researching the model

To be fair to Mr. San, the model in the second link looks like it has his inflatable control surfaces... I wonder did he use it as a template?

On a note, our COD was always on the go and never looked like she just came out of the paint shop
so even if the color was a little "faded" it would look more realistic showing age and miles so to speak

Just a thought

Hiya Seaking :)

I'm with you 100% in the weathering and 'in use' look mate. Aircraft (not military ones anyway) look like they've just come out of the paintshop :) He needed somewhere to start from and the poor representation in Warpaint really wasn't it ;-)
