Classic British Flight Sim

I'm hopefully revisiting the Islands after 25 years, was wondering if anyone else will be down there either Veteran or serving. We have some "days off" & wouldn't mind visiting MPA

any advice, weather, do i take loads of cash as there are no atms??

My wife has been visiting in November for the last few years. She attends the various memorial services. On two of her visits she has travelled with the RAF from Brize Norton but on the others has used the rather tortuous route down through Chile with the Lanchile airline.

You can use your credit cards there for purchases but there are no ATMs and only one bank with limited facilities. My wife recommends that you take a much Sterling Cash that you can manage.

A word of warning about the Lanchile route...Only ONE service per week, in and out of Stanley on Saturdays.

I did the "air bridge" in 1982 from Ascension to Brize Norton in a VC10, No Alcohol was consumed during the conflict, made up for it there :dance: we were all lucky to get the flight back & I know a few rules were broken then.

You may find more stopping points between Santiago and MPA...could be SCL (Santiago de Chile) - Puerto Montt - Punta Arenas - Ria Gallegos - MPA....The Ria Gallegos sector is only at certain times in the month...The rest of the time it is missed out (Ria Gallegos is in Argentina!)

My Wife goes Heathrow to Buenos Aires by British Airways and then to Santiago and on with Lanchile.

Thanks Andy...Yes, she is pleased with it and recent Meridion television programs where Simon emphasises and praises the role played by Naval nurses in the conflict. It was not generally realised how close in to the combat the Uganda was anchored
