I tend not to bother watching these Panorama 'exposes' any more, full of bad reporting and bad science. :sad:

If you're referring to the crash in September last year it wasn't an R1, it was an MR2 (XV230). The media just love to refer to all Nimrods as "spyplanes" to make it sound as though they are over there carrying out some devious cold-war style mission in an effort to drum up anti-war sentiment.

On reflection that sounded rather scathing . Not that I'm sceptical about modern media or anything.

Hindsight is such a wonderful thing after any tragedy so who will they put the blame on for this sad loss of life I wonder? :think:

Will it be the groundcrew who were responsible for the serviceability of the aircraft or the flight crew for missing something on a pre-flight inspection or even........wait for it....... the government?

Either way, all it is going to do is bring back some very sad memories and I for one will not watch it.

Sorry Tonks, I didn't and nobody else would have watched because they all say it is rubbish. I have not seen in years, but within the realms of modern TV it was OK. Main problem is fuel leaks, caused by (or irritated by) air to air refuelling, which was not on the original design sheet. Also a lot more hot to cold operations than ever anticipated for a sub hunter. Add to that age and lack of spares......familiar story :sad: :sad:

Not to mention resources - that's the root cause, but it was only briefly touched on.

Typical TV aviation journalism: "This is the new version [MRA4] undergoing flight test". Then show an airshow clip of XV248, a MR2!
