I think all the RAF were built there.
They were short of work after losing the Comet 2 production that was well under way up in Belfast....Not sure if that was Short or another setup.
It was to help the un employment situation and use the highly skilled staff up there.

According to a publication that I just happened to have open in front of me, Bristol had shares in Short brothers and needed the increased production capacity to cope with expected overseas orders..in the end 30 of the 85 Britannias were built there..
..centre sections were also made by Blackburn and General Aircraft at Dumbarton..

The Belfast is a beast... amazing to think she still fills a neiche in the Market... testiment to the airframe. I wonder what would have hapopened if she'd been re engined with something more modern... Hercules eat your heart out.
