Hi airboatr

Nice Photo! Have you been on that airport?
That is Santa Catarina Airport, Funchal in the Madeira Islands. In 1978, when the rwy length was even shorter than it is now, there was an accident with a TAP B727-200. It didn't make the landing, crashing into the sea. That was in November, I think. In December, I landed there on a B727-100 and I can tell you that it was not a very pleasant experience. Worst was the take-off: the plane, after clearing the rwy, started to descend into the sea, just making its climb very slowly. My late mother was praying to all the saints she knew. I believe that's what save us that day and a good pilot, too.

Hello ravilamir
I didn't know the airport history , thanks for the info on it I shall give it a try in FS
and glad ya made it out flying intstead of swimming ;)
I figured it was a tight space he was aiming for
putting a bead on the target. I think it's one of the best images that shows the inter action between man and machine
when they become one. it's as if the entire mass of his body and plane are swinging under his head . like a pendulum
sweeeeet

notice the CP

'Superb' it is Garry ;-)

Ricardo..
I wish mate.. I really do. I was fortunate enough to be onboard sitting in the 'loadies' seat while that shot was taken. VMT to Chris who turned up for the engine run and took that shot ;-)
