Well.. that's what I told her anyway (they're at Duxford on the 9th.. her birthday.. so I told her I'd booked them earlier)

In reality.. they were displaying for the Gun Club a few miles down the road. It's a bit 'hooty tooty' and they book the Reds every couple of years. Just wish the wx had been a bit kinder.. the sun is out now

Needless to say, she didn't believe me  What few people we had in the pub at the time all left to have a look so I told them the cost of an air display would be added to their bill. Well.. you gotta try haven't you! :drinkers:

Ben..

This weekend is Duxfords main show of the year (Sat and Sun). I only remembered this morning and in a totally round about way. The Veg man told us (when he was delivering our veg) that the Gun Club was awash with Rollers and Bentley's so he suspected the Reds were going to be there. I looked on the Reds site and saw one display for today.. Closed to the public so guessed he was right. On the same schedule, Duxford was listed for Sat and Sun and the penny dropped :brick:

Fortunately, a sad face and a brief explanation later and I've got clearance for Saturday! :welldone:  Forecast is for cloud though so it won't be a good phot day I'm afraid :-(

Sunday would be my ideal day too.. that's probably why she says I can go on Saturday

No.. real reason is we have loads of staff on Saturday and very few on Sunday. I'm sure that if the forecast was brilliant sunshine for Sun and rain on Sat.. she'd let me go on Sun. Then of course, I'd have a grumpy chef to contend with as he'd have to work with her!

If Helen's not running.. I'll probably take her with me (need a bag carrier and daughters do just fine ;-)

you lucky, lucky bug**rs is all I can say! I dearly wish I was able to go, having gone to countless shows there as a child, I really miss it now. The best we have in my neck of the woods is Miramar air show in October, but I looked at the list of statics and performers and its a shadow of what we see even at Mildenhall. Talking to a lot of my friends out here, I think they really missed out on some classic air shows in their youth. At the aforementioned Miramar and El Toro Marine base air shows they typically got jets only and the ocasional Mustang. It's funny, they try to tell me what I missed out on, highlighting the Blue Angels etc, but eventually put them in their place with a few apt You Tube vids of some of our best.
