Morning All,

Does anyone know of any additional BOAC management biography books?

I have read "Out on a Wing" by Sir Miles Thomas and "Comets and Queens" by Basil Smallpeice but don't know of any others. Surely successive Chairmen and MDs (messrs Slattery, Guthrie, Hardie, Granville, Stainton etc) wrote their biogs?

You could try 'BOAC An Illustrated History' by Charles Woodley - ISBN 0-7524-3161-7 RRP £19.99

It runs to around 222 pages plus another couple for refs and is a nice, potted history. Some great info in there regarding fleet types and registrations too ;-)

Thanks Garry - I didn't look hard enough to spot Escorts & Stewards...

Dave B - I'm more interested in the company and people, rather than the aircraft. The Miles Thomas and Basil Smallpeice biogs are excellent because they get into the internal machinations (to a degree) and the issues facing a government-owned business.

I'm very surprised that there doesn't seem to be any other accounts by successive managements.

There is an element of what I think you're looking for in there too though it may not be quite what you're looking for ;-) It is basically the history of BOAC, from it's early beginings to it's final merger with BA. The routes and aircraft were what I wanted so the other content has remained largely unread.. but it is there Ideally, see if you can either find a secondhand copy on the cheap or look out for it in a larger book store and have a gander before parting with any 'hard earned' ;-)

A couple of other books I have.. 'Britains Airlines vol1 1946-51' and 'The Imperial Airways Fleet' also touch on the subject of inter-company wrangling but again, probably not to the degree you're looking for and certainly not exclusively BOAC
